How a differential works (old chevy video)

Here's a pretty neat old chevy video that clearly explains how a differential works:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/K4JhruinbWc&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/K4JhruinbWc&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Great video and great description of the system.

It's a shame that a company that could innovate such things has been run into the ground. Back in its day, GM/Chevrolet were great companies with real innovation.

Wow, finally I understand how it works!

Now I wish there was a video like that for a LSD that is kind of the opposite..

RWebb 08-15-2009 11:11 AM

isn't the Woodstock film out in your area yet?

svandamme 08-15-2009 11:14 AM

that don't cover it, trust me on this.
maybe a good outside view, but it doesn't tell you much about how it works from the inside out.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas does a slightly better job, but still only covers things very casually.
I doubt anybody can explain how a serious acid trip works, to somebody who never has done it seriously.

I loved the video...thanks. Man, for a time machine...go grab one of those Harleys!

OK, here's a video explaining LSD (the effects anyway :D):

LSD is easy. It just locks the two axles together so they are forced to rotate at the same speed. The complicated thing is how that is accomplished. There are several different kinds of LSD, and they can be classified into categories based on how they determine when to lock the axles are how they physically accomplish the locking.

http://www.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm

Should help you understand the different kinds of LSD. Actually all and all it is a pretty good website for kids and adults alike to help understand how stuff works. The manual and automatic transmission ones helped me understand what I was doing when moving that leaver in between the seats.
