Took my son to Mt. Rainier National Park today...

I took my youngest son, just turned 13 to Mt. Rainier National Park today. We went on two trails. The first was nice and easy Narada Falls to Reflection Lake, 1.3 miles 700ft elevation change. The second was the trail to Comet Falls, 1.8 miles 2000ft elevation change. It starts at 3636ft and ends at 5626ft, it was an overcast day so much of it was spent in the clouds. I was great day, definitely one to remember. I wanted to share some photos of the incredible scenery. Enjoy...

Really cool. I love waterfalls. We go to Dupont State Forest here, but nothing that tall.

Is that ice in the last pic?

Very cool! Isn't that mountain (Volcano) getting ready to blow? I heard that somewhere. Have you taken him to see Mt St. Helen's?...Very cool too!

Great dad/ son day out...

My son is 14 and a freshman and is currently in Hell week (football). I cant wait to see his games...

Does your son like to cruise with you in your Porsche?

Great pictures/Great day...

Bob

It all depends where you are going. If you are at Yosemite, hiking up that mist trail you sort of need rain gear when there is not a cloud in the sky

Sweet pics, don't like the sandals for hiking though

Great pics!

Thanks for those routes, looks like youngest (11) can probably do that one, with no issues on the 15 yo.

That mountain is amazing, truly has it's own weather system. When you get right up to it you can see why the indians worshiped it.

When it does, LOOK OUT!

The mud flows ( lahars ) will flow to the ocean and waste a lot of the communities in their paths.

I live roughly 40 miles as the crow files from Mt. Rainier, up until 5 years ago we lived in Orting, WA. After the History channel special about the town being buried by a lahar we moved. We only moved maybe a mile away, but our new house is on the rim of the Orting Valley a good 300 ft above the valley floor. We can actually see our old home, I hope for those in harms way the mountain does not become active again.
