FIA overturns Renault suspension
Renault has been given the green light to race in Valencia.
![]() The FIA has ruled that in lieu of the suspension the team will be fined $50k for letting Alonso out on the track with an unattached front right wheel. A complete travesty of justice has been overturned; Alonso has the opportunity to race in front of his home crowd, all is right with the world - yippee! |

I'm no FA fan, and no Renault fan, but the original ruling was horse s***.
FA had absolutely nothing to do with the wheel not being properly attached. When the driver screws up, and I mean really screws up by doing something intentionally dangerous, then you ban the driver. When the team screws up, you fine the team. The only time I can see excluding a whole team from a race is when their car design is blatantly unsafe--and not tightening a wheel all the way doesn't have a thing to do with the design.

Oh, and at least the FIA heard the appeal in a timely manner this time. (Which may have been more of a coincidence with the race schedule.)
I mean seriously, why does it always take *weeks* instead of *days* to hear an appeal?

I can't help but wonder how big the fine would have been if that wheel had came off and went into the stands at 150 mph and took out a row of spectators ..................
I know they have leashes on the suspension and hubs but that doesn't help is a wheel isn't tightened down. |
