Every argument I've ever heard promoting social media boils down to, "everyone is doing it". And that's not a terribly compelling reason to do anything.

Oh... by the way... tweet... I'm sitting in a chair picking my nose... tweet.

You know Roosevelt did not have a phone at Sagamore Hill where he spent a great deal of time during his term.

If someone needed him they'd have to call the Drug Store in town and someone would be dispatched to deliver the message.

And no one answered at 4 AM.;)

I used to pass Sagamore Hill and the Drug store twice a day 5 days a week. It's a hike in a car.

Times change, the world changes, needs change.

Much like the early days of mass adopters to the Internet, there was not a lot going on but it grew and matured.

So will these new forms of communication.

Don't diss it cause you don't get it.

By the time I've been on this site, a couple of gun sites, and looked for one or two items on eBay, and half a dozen porn sites, that's my messing about on computers done for the day. I have NEVER been on Twitter and I can't see what it could do for me (a bunch of time wasters on Twitter), also I signed up to facebook, but strangly ;) no one wants to know me.

This pretty much mirrors my daily existence.

Although I did sign up on Twitter. But only because my boss's boss emailed me that a client had said something nice about me. So I had to sign up to say thanks. Now I have all these complete strangers following me, though I've only ever logged in once and only typed, "Thanks."

I have a FB account. I found the same people that were annoying in HS are still annoying on FB.

I had an old Ex find me on there. Ironically after a divorce from the guy she was cheating on me with and decided to dump me to eventually marry him. She decided it would be splendid to re-connect with her old boyfriend.

I t was very obvious I was re-married and considering she was a lying cheating whore, why would I want to "re-connect"?

I told her to F-off in not so many words. This resulted in a poopstorm of nasty messages from her and her sister. This is when Bell told me about the ignore feature. Its better then on here, you just disappear from FB as far as they can tell.

I have enjoyed using FB and really dived into it a few weeks ago it has resulted in me keeping in better touch with family. As a matter of fact a bunch of us are meeting up for drinks tomorrow night at a new bar and grill and the idea was hatched on FB.

I use Linkedin as a networking resource. As a freelance visual effects artist I have gotten several gigs directly due to contacts on and correspondence through it.

Facebook is a distraction that I go on every now and then. Mos of the time I give a fuch about what my "friends" are eating for lunch or what ever they post but occasionally it's nice to re-connect with someone from your past.

Twitter is an odd one. I follow a couple of other VFX artists and we kind of have a small support group going on but the real reason I use Twitter is to follow the location of the Kogi Korean Taco truck! It is situations like this where Twitter shines. How they'll make money with it, I'll never figure out!

LinkedIn - professional use and networking, keep in touch with former coworkers
Facebook - personal use and keep in touch with friends, family and acquaintances
