Land Rover Series II forum?

Anybody know of a good Land Rover Series II (1958-1971) forum?

When I owned my Defender 90, this place was great: http://www.roversnorth.com/store/

It's been about seven years...

Along with the Rovers North site, try the Guns and Rovers site, http://gunsandrovers.yuku.com/forum/view/id/1 It caters more to the series vehicles. What can you tell us of your truck?

Joe, I don't have it yet. I'm going to look at a '58 Series II 88 tomorrow. I don't know much about it aside from it doesn't currently run and some pictures in the ad. The owner sounds pretty knowlegable and wants it to go to a good home. He's asking $2350. I'll post more after I see it.

Say, you wouldn't happen to have a link to buyer's guide kind of thing with what sort of things I should look for, would you?

Rich:

I used to drive those things all the time when I lived in Scotland & England. Rust can be an issue with the steel frame, and the doors can suffer also. Hopefully these will help...

They've got some nice write ups on engine swaps in there. I'm hoping to put a 2.4l Mercedes diesel in mine in a few months.

Thanks for all the links! I'm going to need them as I picked up a '58 Land Rover Series II 88" today. It's a currently a non-runner, but I'm hoping it's nothing terminal. I remember saying that exact same thing when I bought the '66 911...and it was terminal.

Sorry for the crappy Craigslist pictures, but I forgot to bring my camera when I went to look at it.

Cool. I love the look with the headlights on the grill instead of the fenders. I think they changed that in '68?

I kinda like the headlights on the wings, but I may be biased. She looks to be in pretty good shape, especially considering the price. If the engine ends up being toast there are literally a dozen readily available engines that can be weaseled in there without much problem.

When you get it running, remember your handbrake. It's not actually a brake, it's an axle lock and one time forgetting can cost you a freaking small fortune. Did the II's have auto axle lockers on the front? If so, get rid of them. They rarely work properly and some manual lockers aren't that expensive. Be sure to lock em in every now and then without 4wd engaged to keep the fluid moving.

They're awesome trucks if you stay up on all the little things you need to be conscious of. My Series III has been an absolute blast and gets TONS of attention.
