Self Defense Tip
Subject: FW: Better than Pepper Spray
No longer do you need to keep your .45 or AK-47 sitting out on the coffee table...a can of wasp spray will do! Never would have thought it ! Good thought..... Wasp Spray I have a friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high risk area who was concerned about someone coming into the office on Monday to rob them when they were counting the collection. She asked the local police department about using pepper spray and they recommended to her that she get a can of wasp spray instead. The wasp spray, they told her, can shoot up to twenty feet away and is a lot more accurate, while with the pepper spray they have to get too close to you and could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker until they get to the hospital for an antidote. She keeps a can on her desk in the office and it doesn't attract attention from people like a can of pepper spray would. She also keeps one nearby at home for protection. You could also keep it in your car and it would not be illegal. Thought this was interesting and might be of use... It's a lot cheaper buying wasp spray than paying a hospital bill after being mugged... Ya know, since I took my assault rifle, a mini-14, 1,000 rounds of ammo, and the three Semi automatic hand guns and another 300 rounds of ammo, out of my trunk, and put ONE can of WASP spray in, I'm getting better gas mileage... I wonder if the gangbangers know about this????? |
I'll stick with my S&W J frame thanks.
|
In California using that against an attacker would probably land you in jail for attempted murder or you'd get sued for a gaszillion dollars for pain and suffering.
Anywhere else they'd give you a medal. |
I'm pretty sure using a household chemical for anything other than its intended use is a crime, probably a felony in CA, with a mandatory minimum if used for self-defense, again, only in CA.
|
You need an antidote to be able to see again after getting hosed with Wasp spray?
We need a test subject. Any volunteers? Dipso? :D |
I got a good high pressure blast of gasoline directly into my eyes a while back. Believe me, that will take anyone out of commission for a good hour.
|
Used to be a potential victim could defend themselves with whatever is handy. Whatever it was didn't have to be pre-approved for self-defense.
If I were out in the garage and someone came in through the open door to rob or attack me, would I blast him in the face with brake cleaner? Bet your ass I would. I'd probably even light him on fire afterwards... |
We make some killer bug spray - I swear it could be used as a chemical weapon!
Funny project, years ago a guy in R&D had the idea of filling paint ball capsules with a highly concentrated insecticide, using a CO2 powered paintball gun and using it to blast wasp nests. They spent a lot of time and effort on a project that seemed cool but had its draw backs: 1) The balls actually shot through the nest which just pissed off the wasps 2) The EPA and ATF would not allow the 'gun' to look like a gun so it was design to look like anything but...which meant it was very uncomfortable to use and lacked accuracy. 3) Although many people thought it was cool no one wanted to spend a few hundred bucks on such a device. The project was a flop. The up-side, I have one in my garage that I scored for free along with a bag of highly concentrated insecticide. I have yet to use it but R&D has assured me it will work on Zombies as well as yellow jackets and wasps! |
|
Paint balls full of hydrocloric acid would be mucho cool.
PS: After reading the Snopes article, remind me never to move to Michigan, as they ban anything stronger than 2% pepper spray. WTF, over, why do some jurisdictions hate their citizenry? http://abclocal.go.com/wtvg/story?section=news/local&id=6650350 |

Maybe I'll keep a Supersoaker filled with chlorine bleach or muriatic acid in the garage. |

Now if we were talking sharks, ok... but laser wasps.. no, 10 000 lasers is just asking for trouble. And not energy efficient. |

Lubey: "We make some killer bug spray - I swear it could be used as a chemical weapon!"
- as a matter of fact, most of them are. wasp spray is usually a neurotoxin -- and that goes for humans too. |
Yup, had a job mixing insecticide once, had the same stab yourself in the leg thing they have for chem warfare in the military

ok, if Rick is talking about the prohibition on the can, I'm pretty sure it is not a crime -- a lower level type offense
there to prevent kids from inhaling, and various other types of misuse of a pesticide |
Hmm...doesn't say anything about wasp spray...but then again, pretty much anything is illegal in CA, so it wouldn't surprise me if there was some obscure paragraph elsewhere in the Penal Code about spraying people with chemicals...dirty commies.
California Penal Code Section 12403.7 Notwithstanding any other law, any person may purchase, possess, or use tear gas and tear gas weapons for the projection or release of tear gas if the tear gas and tear gas weapons are used solely for self-defense purposes, subject to the following requirements: (a) No person convicted of a felony or any crime involving an assault under the laws of the United States, the State of California, or any other state, government, or country or convicted of misuse of tear gas under subdivision (g) shall purchase, possess, or use tear gas or tear gas weapons. (b) No person who is addicted to any narcotic drug shall purchase, possess, or use tear gas or tear gas weapons. (c) No person shall sell or furnish any tear gas or tear gas weapon to a minor. (d) No person who is a minor shall purchase, possess, or use tear gas or tear gas weapons. (e) (1) No person shall purchase, possess, or use any tear gas weapon that expels a projectile, or that expels the tear gas by any method other than an aerosol spray, or that contains more than 2.5 ounces net weight of aerosol spray. (2) Every tear gas container and tear gas weapon that may be lawfully purchased, possessed, and used pursuant to this section shall have a label that states: "WARNING: The use of this substance or device for any purpose other than self-defense is a crime under the law. The contents are dangerous--use with care." (3) After January 1, 1984, every tear gas container and tear gas weapon that may be lawfully purchased, possessed, and used pursuant to this section shall have a label that discloses the date on which the useful life of the tear gas weapon expires. (4) Every tear gas container and tear gas weapon that may be lawfully purchased pursuant to this section shall be accompanied at the time of purchase by printed instructions for use. (f) Effective March 1, 1994, every tear gas container and tear gas weapon that may be lawfully purchased, possessed, and used pursuant to this section shall be accompanied by an insert including directions for use, first aid information, safety and storage information, and explanation of the legal ramifications of improper use of the tear gas container or tear gas product. (g) Any person who uses tear gas or tear gas weapons except in self-defense is guilty of a public offense and is punishable by imprisonment in a state prison for 16 months, or two or three years or in a county jail not to exceed one year or by a fine not to exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by both the fine and imprisonment, except that, if the use is against a peace officer, as defined in Chapter 4.5 (commencing with Section 830) of Title 3 of Part 2, engaged in the performance of his or her official duties and the person committing the offense knows or reasonably should know that the victim is a peace officer, the offense is punishable by imprisonment in a state prison for 16 months or two or three years or by a fine of one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by both the fine and imprisonment. |
A friend of mine keeps a 12 ga flare gun in his truck for defensive purposes. His description on white phosphorus on flesh wasn't very nice.

snopes rates this as a MIXTURE

Isn't this the point in the first place? I think it would be even more awesome to have literally scared the crap out of them than an actual wounding. "Look...I made him shiat his pants"......they come out with a product that can make someone do that, I'm first in line. |

probably better off with one of those flare sticks...the sort cops throw on the road for accidents at night...
stuff one of those in the perp's pants... turn on phonecamera to get that happy dance on youtube. |
"Flare guns are not effective self defense tools."
I certainly agree. Given that he only expects to use it against a carjacker, I assume he thinks it would give him a (legal) leg to stand on if it is discovered in his vehicle in an area where handguns are forbidden. Jim |
