Anyone seen Bob Dylan lately?
His 2009 tour goes right through my backyard in October at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. Are his recent shows good?

We saw his new tour earlier this month in Corpus Christi, TX. Willie Nelson put on his usual show. John Mellencamp put on a very good show (I thought anyway). Dylan was a disappointment to myself and many others. His show (that night anyway) was high volume rock and roll. If you are expecting to hear the Dylan of the 60's... he's not. Could barely recognize several of the old standards. We and many others left early.
However, many thought he was great. Depends on what you were expecting. Part of the problem was the show started at 5 (hotter than hell here at 5) and by the time the opening act, Willie, and Mellencamp had done there sets, it was 9:30 before Dylan appeared. The show was way to long for this weather anyway. Just my opinion anyway.

Bob rewrote the music to many of his older tunes. Something about being tired of playing the same stuff. Really a downer for his fans. I went to 2 shows over the last 2 years and I thought both were disappointing. He plays keyboard mostly these days and you cannot recognize 'Tangled up in Blue' until he hits the chorus.

What is the attraction for seeing these old R&R acts..think you are going to recapture the magic of that long ago show. To grasp at the memory of youth once more, only to find that you along with the R&R act have faded into old age.

Dylan's shows are great. He changes the songs/tunes at every show, so definitely don't expect to hear it like it was on the record. He is an active, ever evolving artist - not a has-been singing the same old stuff in the same way.

Wow... people complaining about Dylan going electric... talk about flashbacks.
I presume Joan Baez wasn't at the concert either?

But don't go if you just want to hear old favorites. He's not into that.

You're way off the mark with this. Dylan doesn't do nostalgia. He goes in new directions in virtually every show. Great artist with a brilliant band.

Dylan and Neil Young are fairly unique as far as recording artists go. For the most part they reach their peaks in their early 20's to late 30's. Then it just becomes a rehashing of the same old genre. Neil Young and Dylan have kept the flame of artisitic inovation alive far longer then most of their generation. The key here is that they continue to grow by examining the various stages of their lives and relating that information in their art form, rather then just accepting what they know as being all there is for the next 40 years.

All of Bob Dylan's U.S. royalties from sales of these recordings will be donated to Feeding America, guaranteeing that more than four million meals will be provided to more than 1.4 million people in need in this country during this year's holiday season. Bob Dylan is also donating all of his future U.S. royalties from this album to Feeding America in perpetuity. Additionally, Bob Dylan is partnering with two international charities to provide meals during the holidays for millions in need in the United Kingdom and the developing world, and will be donating all of his future international royalties from Christmas In The Heart to those organizations in perpetuity. Details regarding the international partnerships will be announced next week. Bob Dylan commented, "It's a tragedy that more than 35 million people in this country alone -- 12 million of those children -- often go to bed hungry and wake up each morning unsure of where their next meal is coming from. I join the good people of Feeding America in the hope that our efforts can bring some food security to people in need during this holiday season."
