do you guys like fresh figs?

one of my neighbors grows them. i got a bunch of them this year. light purple, with bright red insides. sweetest fruit ever! i love them! i sometimes saute the purple ones in some port to make a great sauce to pour over good vanilla ice cream.

i took a baggie in to work last night, and the miner's acted like i was eating cat turds. all four of my crew hated them. they wouldnt even try one. heathens!

i guess figs do not have a huge following? they are loaded with fiber...

I love 'em... they are so delicious if picked at just the right time.

We had a huge fig bush in our backyard when I was a kid. It got so big you couldn't reach all of 'em unless you got on a 6 foot stepladder.

Mom would make 20-30 jars of preserves every year... she'd give some away and the rest would go in this big closet/cupboard in the hallway off the kitchen. Man, were those things good on buttered homemade biscuits. YEOW.

We've got an unopened jar right now that is marked 1984. My sister brought it to our family reunion in June and gave it to me... it was from Mom's last batch.

I don't know whether it's safe to eat or not. I'm tempted to open it and taste it if it doesn't smell funky.

Got about a 15-foot tall fig tree right outside our kitchen window. Wish you were here to get them before the yellow jackets do!

There's the problem. I'm not sure I've ever had fresh figs (fig newtons don't count, right? )

I'll try just about anything once, and most things twice.

So whatever happened with the 3rd shift tech that wanted you to do his paperwork?

Oh good fresh figs are amazing. We had a couple of fig trees when I was a kid. I think that's pretty much all that I would eat for about two months every year - LOL!

Oh and we had a mulberry tree too (not a bush - a TREE!). Not as much flavor as a blackberry, but still good and no dang stickers.

if you break them open right they look like a woman's place, an open face roastbeef sandwhich if you will.

Fresh figs are an acquired taste.

We had 8 very big fig trees at our old house. I would pick them, and throw them in the woods. The old woman next door was aghast, so then I started giving them to her instead. When the guy next door found out, he wanted some too, so that he could make preserves. Through all this, I would taste them from time to time, to see what the big deal was. Yeah, I like fresh figs.

I just had some fresh figs last week.
There's a nice fruit stand/market about five minutes from Sears toward Sonoma on the left.

They're the best.

Trim the stems and wrap them in ultra thin slices of real parma prosciutto ham. Use a knife and fork to cut like pieces of steak.

The combination of sweet and salt is amazing.

Yummy. I've always wondered why they're not more popular.

Love them. We can buy them at our local Whole Foods in berry containers.
