Always wanted one of those! We just bought a Subaru 3.6R (..instead of a Porsche? Yeah, I know..) and I have to admit I'd LOVE to stuff that motor into a well set up 914!

Ha! Found this old thread while searching for something else.

I've got a pair of Subaru Outbacks. One with 6's and 7's. ;)

Actually that was from the day I had the tires replaced. Took the wheels off my SC in the garage and took them to the tire shop in the Subie. So just for kicks I thought I'd see what it would look like.....

I had a '95 WRX, which was a JDM import, great fun to drive nd loads of character.
Replaced with this http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y58...5-2-05-158.jpg and now a sensible 3 litre diesel 3 seies BMW :(

bigel 09-02-2012 06:33 AM

Not here...VW Jetta and a Hyundai Genesis...

rs6er 09-02-2012 06:42 AM

Current Subarus in addition to 81 SC: 2011 Legacy 2.5 LTD, 2007 Spec B Legacy, 2002 WRX (fastest car in the family.)

MrBonus 09-02-2012 08:00 AM

My wife owns a Legacy. Does that count?

Ramathorn 09-02-2012 08:29 AM

we just picked up another..05 outback :)

Sharonkerry 09-02-2012 08:59 AM

Although a Subaru would be practical and I did test drive an Outback & Forester when I was car shopping last March, this is the car that followed me home

All the best!

It was always Porsche and Audi for me. Now days I need a serious 4x4 for hauling my toys and going way back in the woods.

Be careful out there, VERY carefull....

Many Subbies, current WRX included, only have "pretend" F/awd, marketing purposes ONLY. Only form of "awd" is via last resort TC braking.

aquazulu2 09-02-2012 01:08 PM

I have a 1986 911 and a 1997 Subaru Legacy 2.0 Dual turbo.. The boxer engine was my decision for the Subaru. A VW air cool was the best tank I ever had, and got me started with those engines..

All Subies are full time symmetrical AWD (save for the BRZ).

Yes, North/South engine mounting allows/requires equal length front halfshafts, thus "symmetrical" "AWD". Given all the versions of "awd" capability that Subbie uses, has used, over the years at first I didn't understand the "symmetrical" bit.

Then I ran across some Subbie literature that explained their (uniquely misleading) use of the term.

The only full time "symmetrical" AWD one might have equates ONLY to three full open diff'ls, front/center, rear. Fully "symmetrical" , 25/25/25/25, right up to the point wherein you find yourself, unless TC is "on", with a "ONE-WHEEL" drive system.

my daily driver is a 2012 subaru legacy, wife's is a 2011 outback.

porterdog 09-02-2012 06:12 PM

Sold my last one (of 4); will never buy, or recommend, another.

Search Subaru 2.5 Turbo Engine Problems; for a company that's been building turbocharged cars for 30-ish years it's utterly unforgivable.

mclmk8d 09-02-2012 08:50 PM

Good theory and true in my case. My cars can be seen in my garage; 2002 WRX wagon and my 87 Carrera.

My high-school age son had a Subaru SVX,then an Audi 90 Quattro and now a 2002 WRX... So he filled all the stereotypes for the household.

DGriz 09-02-2012 09:58 PM

Truth! My daily driver is an utterly boring but ultimately reliable Subaru Forester.

And the cost to buy and maintain a Subaru is low - so more $$ for P-cars! :)

Amochosto 09-02-2012 10:05 PM

Nice theory, My wife has a Subaru B9 Tribecca and I have a BMW M3 and a 911.

wasserkuhl 09-03-2012 02:38 AM

Yep, its a consistent theory, I have had a subaru for the gravelly reasons for a long timehttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1346665112.jpg
