Cars You Dream About

Whenever I have a dream that involves me driving a car, I'm driving my '85 MB 300D. I only owned that car from 1999-2000 and I still miss it. That said, my dad bought it new when I was 6, so I grew up in that car.

My 944S, 951, and RX8 I all owned for longer, but I never seem to dream about them.

Part of me wants to get another 300D and make it a daily driver again. Part of me expects that I will do that some day.

I tend to dream of attainable stuff, even if it's s stretch... *ALL* my dream cars have essentially tripled in value in the past decade and are no longer attainable (within reason). Still if I dream on an old car of mine it would be my 57 356A, except repainted and outlawed... Stupid of me to sell...

There is only one car I dream about now... Lamborghini Countach.

I want an original Australian delivered carburetor equipped car in near perfect condition.
There's what I would describe as a rats nest for sale locally and they're asking $880,000.

Ain't gonna happen

I once had a dream about my 1966 mustang's tail end swinging around on some black ice - oh wait, that really happened.

I used have dreams about riding my motorcycle.

Been a long time though.

Yea, I was just day dreaming about the car I saw at a muscle car dealership here locally....a 1969 Shelby Mustang GT350 convertible (only $149,000). For now, I think I will stick with my 40th anniversary 2004 Mustang GT convertible (only $2500).

Most recent for me was my old '65 GTO...have dreamed about the old '72S though.

Latest Car & Driver is their annual "hot laps" around VIR issue. Thumbed through it, finding nothing in it that gave me an urge to buy.

Sigh. I guess I'm realizing that there's not much future in old age.

I maintain a list.
Just in case I suddenly become wealthy.
I figure if that happens - I will need to go back and look at the list.
Nearly all are unobtainable.
The list includes:
Miura
300SL
Toyota 2000gt
Multiple various Porsche
Land Rover Defender
Of course a VW Thing would be lots of fun. This one could be attainable.

A 1964 Ferrari GT250 Berlinetta Lusso. I wanted one back when they were $12K. They were just as unobtainable then as they are now.

That's Ok - as if you ever sat in one and drove it you'd absolutely hate it. Once in the cockpit you can't see out anywhere but the windshield, only the lower half of the door windows roll down, rides like crap even for that era, about half of the power you'd expect, really short gearing, etc, etc.

I worked on one then drove it years ago......... that was enough to fix that itch for me

I don't remember ever having a dream about a car...

Now if you want to talk about cars I dream about owning, that I can do.

But that also falls into two categories attainable cars I dream about owning someday (997 Targa, 356 replica).

And cars I dream about but are unattainable (XKE, Lamborghini Miura, Ferrari Daytona, 1967 427 Corvette, etc)

Formula 1 or other pro level open wheel car that I could barely get around a track without spinning in real life.

Since you are bringing up the latest crop, I must confess the first new car that makes me a little weak at the knees is the AMG GT.

Above my pay grade (well, above my F#$k money anyway) but one day, maybe... yeah.

Only two cars I remember ever dreaming about. Both of them my pops'. The 64 Corvair Spyder with baby spots on both A pillars and a 66 Malibu station wagon with its chrome roof rack. Would love to have both today.

Mrs WD and I spent several hours at the Gilmore Museum today. I have a lot more to dream about now.

More on the Gilmore later.
