Nav/stereo/xfm/cd recommendations
 

Hi all, I have an 06 Superduty and xfm. The xfm is an external unit. Who/what is the best/ most reasonable xfm/cd/ipod ready/ nav unit that I can buy and install? Iam not that into car stereos, but being a contractor I see the light on nav, our bmw has it, would like it all in dash in my truck. I have been to Crutchfield, but have no idea.Thanks.

The kenwood is garmin based, once you figure out its menu system it's easy to use.
The pioneers are nice, simple to use, the double din units are pretty bulletproof.....
Alpine and clarion both make decent units but I've found the kenwood and pioneer to be less problematic due to everything being in the main unit (not a separate nav brain)

Your factory xm will not integrate with anything aftermarket, if you have a plug and play type xm tuner you can feed the audio strait into any aftermarket nav through the aux input. They will all work with an ipod with the mfg's proper cable/black box.....the i-phone does not work with every unit so be specific about what ipod and version you have when purchasing.

Just saw you xm is an external unit....on the base there should be an "audio out" headphone type plug hole.....you'll need a 1/8" headphone to rca adapter to plug into the rca aux input on most of the nav radios, some have a headphone aux input on the front of the radio but that can be "ugly" to look at.
Any of the nav units will need the gps antenna (provided with all) mounted with a clear shot of the sky....
Most have the option to add a vss (vehicle speed sensor) connection which will let it work more accurately....iirc on you trucks radio harness is the vss wire.....chevys are at the ecm....

Clarion/alpine/pioneer all offer a hidden brain for xm which you will control through the nav unit, prices vary but they all work fine.
All you'll need to do is call and switch the tuner module xmid # on your account after the new unit is installed.

Pioneer AVIC Z2, Z3, Z*

They fit the SuperDuty hole quite well, they run via hard drive, accomodate a back-up camera, and will work with the steering wheel controls.

I've owned two Pioneer Avic D3 models and I've been happy with them. The one in my old GTI had XM and the one I currently have in the wife's Xterra has XM, and a backup camera.
