Great story on a coach that passed away.
I'm not into football like some people are but this story grabbed my attention when I logged on tonight.
Sounds like he was a great guy. http://www.fanhouse.com/2009/08/31/small-town-coach-big-time-hero/?icid=main|htmlws-main|dl1|link4|http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fanhouse.com%2F200 9%2F08%2F31%2Fsmall-town-coach-big-time-hero%2F

Thanks for sharing Oh Haha. That coach had a huge and far reaching impact on the people around him. It really does trivialize the ego centric, money grubbing professional athletes that our society idolizes and puts some perspective on what it should really all be about.

I hope there are more folks like him out there and we just don't hear about them. Too bad you have to die to get good press.

That was some story; he lives on through the men he molded and the lives he touched.

"It really does trivialize the ego centric, money grubbing professional athletes that our society idolizes and puts some perspective on what it should really all be about."
This quote is only half correct. What the story of this coach does is also trivialize the ego-centric, money grubbing COACHES that have invaded high school athletics. While we have many good coaches and adminiatrators down here we have so many -- to borrow a term I saw on another post -- "Asshats" -- in charge of teaching and molding kids lives that it's ridiculous! High School coaches receiving shoe contract money, free cars from local dealers and other "perks" that supposedly go along with the job... sheeesh! I never had the pleasure of meeting this coach. I have met some others that are really good men, but unfortunately many, many more are those "asshats" previously mentioned. I just hope that some of the others involved in high school athletics will read about this man and take a lesson from his life and the comments those that knew him best are sharing. |
