2000 Honda Civic

My daughter is the current driver of my (former) Civic {5 speed transmission}. Recently, she has complained that the car stalls without reason. She has been driving the 5 sped for about 4 months and has gotten that down pretty well so I don't think she is the problem. Any thoughts as to what might cause intermittent stalling? We took it to the shop today; they could not find anything wrong. The car has about 133K miles on it.

Thanks.

Mike

Agreed and I assume that's what the mechanic thought after talking with my daughter. My guess it is electrical such that something is shorting out. She claims the car does not idle rough before it dies, although with music blaring it may be tough to tell. I did a search and found that the throttle body could be the problem, although I've not really delved into how I can determine that to be the case.

I have replaced a couple of idle control valves on these cars that had intermittent stalling. If the car stalls intermittently and does not want to restart, I would be looking at the main relay, it is what turns on the ecm, fuel pump, and ignition, and failures of these are common.
You may want to try cleaning the throttle body, and see if it improves first, hey, its free, and only takes a couple of minutes.
Give me some more details of the circumstances of when it stalls, and I may be able to help more.

Does the civic throw any codes? Could be a coil.....my 92si died randomly for a 1 month period, changed out the coil and that fixed it.....didn't throw any codes....
Could be a number of things though, maybe take it by autozone for a free scan.....it's an obdII car so there should be something stored....

Would that possibly have any affect on the speedometer? My daughter has complained that the speedometer (or, as she said 'that thing that tells you how fast you are going") stops working occasionally.

Thanks.

No, not really mike. She might have a faulty cluster PSB or something. With 133k on the car you've got a lot of stuff electronics wise that is probably going bad.
