RoninLB says

Guys, I urged Ron to post this pic. Ron wrote back, said he doesn't think it's noteworthy. I disagree.

As you know, Ron's road warrior 911 is soon to have a new home. Ron is building a new garage/shop. He has found a good contractor, but still likes to keep an eye on things. So, a pic of Ron hard at work during construction.

Now, at the risk of Ron's wrath...I ask you: Noteworthy? I think so...it illustrates well the absolute best way to build a new garage!

When I first read this my heart sunk. I was thinking the worse (ie. he had sold his car) and that the end was near.

Good Luck with the new garage. Hope to see you in Nov.

----------- This thread and replies kinda threw me.
So in the confusion I ask the bride about the pic shown from my computer file.
She said "What about it?"
I say "What do you think?"
She "It's you."
Me "What do you mean?"
She "It's you as only you can look."

------------ nothing except we're from same neck of the woods. Different culture, different attitude, different sense of humor. Larry has a great act. He's somewhat similar to Woody Allen. I'm from the other side.

If we ever meet I'll say who this 60+ year old rock guitar player is.

And pics worth eyeballing coming up.........

This is as it was. Probably built in the 1930's as a 1 1/2 garage. 2x4's directly on 1" slab. I wouldn't even put my car it it.

Nassau Co, Long Island has restrictions galore. It's nuts. The garage had to be stripped of stucco after it was tested in 3 spots for environmental controlled toxins [formaldehyde] so the inspector could check for termites and rats . If he passes it you have 10 days to tear it down or suffer getting a new inspection for $500. I don't get the logic of 10 days in a garage demo.

no question the old garage was a mess

now the good stuff
The header you see stretched out on the grass is 5.25" x 18" x 33' Parallam engineered wood. It looks mean up close.

the crew using a gizmo like a huge floor jack to raise it
it weighs about 30#/ft

height restrictions as per zoning board and me looking for every inch developed into double up on 2x8 with the spacers instead of 2x10's

Which leads to the next item..rollaways. I already suggested Ron go wider than taller with the rollaway tool set-up. Wish I'd gone wider instead of taller with my
26" wide 3 chest 15 drawer Craftsman set...Should have gone 48" wide. Hindsight is crystal clear.

That looks like a Norman Rockwell, "A Porsche Christmas".

Are you running air tools in your new digs? I'd be interested in how you do it...I'm turning some old barn space into a shop.

What are you going to do for heat ron? I'd imagine a gas heater hanging from the rafters.....or did you go with the heated floor?
