Clarkson at his best!
The message is so true. It just brings a tear to my eye.

I'm afraid Jeremy nailed it. Buy 'em and drive 'em while you can, guys...

All of episode 13x07 is pretty amazing. In fact just about all of season 13 was really good. By far the best yet.

always impressed by the editing and camerawork on top gear. makes american car and motorcycle mags look joyless and dull.
but his warning is dead on. should these alternative energy vehicles ever start to reach interesting levels of performance, there are legions of nanny state officials waiting to regulate them back to golf cart status.

Thanks for the great post. Makes me want to go drive.
Production values on TG are fabulous - the show highlights just how bad North American fare is.

isn't really relevant to top gear but is a funny swipe at british drama television.
don't watch much british tv but based on what i've seen i suspect top gear towers over most of their programming just as much as it does ours.

Figures he would reserve such an sentiment for the UK Aston Martin. The spot was brilliant but 20+ years late...that's how I feel about the 1984-1989 911... last of drivers/enthusiasts cars.

Nothing like having a helicopter at ones disposal for car shoots. I hadn't noticed the motorized pan head shots in the interior in previous episodes. Nice effect. Top Gear shows have one of the greatest production values of any car show I've seen. A large govt. budget and film crew helps immensely, but direction, cinematography, editing, SFX and music selection are wonderful. Sherwood |

Great camera angles, great cinematography and Jeremy of course.
I hear him loud and clear and his points are well noted...*but* I disagree...there are more choices now than ever before for fast, uber engineered cars. Cripes..You can now buy a Hyundai with almost 400hp!!! Who would have thought... The demand will always be there, there will always be "petrol-heads" around the world demanding true driver's cars and there are lots of petrol heads out there with the finances to afford them. So The Aston V12, the Porsche Turbos, Lamborghinis, Ferraris will soldier on. During the '70s oil embargo the same messages were expressed "The V8 and the Supercar is dead"..and most of the exotic car companies sustained and are still around today tempting us with their luscious hardware. But Yasin even here on a board filled with Porsche nuts it isn't hard to find people willing to embrace the concept of a 10,000lb battery filled Lotus.
Cars aren't just about 0-60 and top speed and total G's pulled. There is sound and smell that completes the experience.

In the '70's, it was simple economics- Gas is too expensive/rare to use for pleasure driving, so the demand will disappear. What's different today is the threat of these cars being legislated by the government out of existance. We already have a Gas Guzzler tax. Not too much of a reach to say "No more gas-guzzlers after this date".

I think he's saying that they will be legislated out of existence in the future - a process that has begun. Sooner there than here, but...

I have always like the show. In this bit, I like how little Jeremy says (usually he is pretty vocal with his opinions), and yet, how true and to the point it is.
