Why do I like that flick? Oh yeah...the yellow 356 driven by Jacqueline Bissett. Boy howdy, is she EVER a looker in a mini skirt.

I dont get that channel... I could have used the distraction...

I'm friends with the son of Lalo Schifrin, who wrote the music score for Bullit. His son told me when the director, Peter Yates, wanted music during the chase scene, Lalo refused, saying the engines, shifting transmissions and screeching tires was the music.

It's available on Blu-ray with some decent bonus features.

Saw it for sale in Best Buy last night for $4.99

How many times do they pass that VW in the chase?

Twice, I think.

As well, skid marks at the bottom of the hill before the left-hand turn shows the scene was shot several times.

The funny thing about the entire chase scene is IIRC, the Charger was a faster car, and should have been able to outrun the Mustang.

Not with Steve driving.

I NEVER WANT TO SEE THAT MOVIE AGAIN>

Yes Jackie Bisset was HOT and the 356 was KOOOL and the car chase scene was great..but the rest of the movie just sucked...

Sometime you should tell him (if he has any influence over this) that the soundtrack needs to be reissued. That's one of my favorite works of his.

Good idea! I'll mention it.

Sucked? The movie was great. It was a thinking movie. When McQueen walked into the hotel room/apt. where the fake perp and cop were shot, and he sizes up the whole scene with nothing but background noise from the freeway, showed deeply into his character.

The whole procedural part of Bullit has only been outdone by "The French Connection," IMO.

The DA played by Robert Vaughn was an excellent political opportunist a-hole.

And the end scene at SFO with McQueen chasing the real perp on the runways and into the terminal was terrific.

There was more to Bullit than Bisset (who I thought was a weak character -- just eye candy) and the car chase.

DVD Widescreen

I haven't seen the movie in years. At the end of the chase scene the car hits a gas pump & it explodes. If you watch closely you will see that the car actually misses the pump, but it explodes anyway. The guy with his finger on the "blow up" button hit it even though the driver was a little off. Once they blew it they couldn't reshoot the scene.

Lots of screwups and inconsistencies in the movie, but regardless, it's still a classic.

I remember someone telling me a long time ago that they noticed that the Charger lost three hubcaps during the chase scene... all off the left side. The next time I saw the movie, I counted and I think I remember seeing all three.

Bullitt's Goofs section at IMDb.com has probably every screwup here:

Here's a very interesting one: During the chase scene you can hear a manual stick shift changing gears on the Mustang during exterior shots of the car, but shots inside the vehicle during the chase show an automatic and not a manual stick.

Ryan? I was in his HS class. Tell him Alarick says hi.
