Goodbye To Our Cat Hobbes

Hobbes was killed by a car tonight.

He died about half an hour after greeting me as I walked up the driveway, returning from a business trip. It must have been a hard hit and a very quick death. He had no external injuries but felt broken inside. His collar was blown off and his tags broke away. I will try to find them in the morning. I brought his body back in a box, and the kids hugged and petted him and cried. We showed his body to the other cat. By lantern light, we buried him in the front yard, shrouded in white cloth, with a favorite cat toy and a small bag of catnip. We'll plant catnip over his grave tomorrow.

Very sorry and sad to read this, John.

Wow, John. Sorry to read this. Terrible stuff. It's terrible to lose our animal friends. :(

HardDrive 09-11-2009 11:31 PM

So terrible. My heart goes out to your family.

Porsche-O-Phile 09-12-2009 12:12 AM

I'm so sorry. Having recently lost two of my own pets (Charlie, two years ago and Bonnie, this past spring) I know how hard this is. They are family - nothing less. Nothing can replace the joy, happiness and companionship that the selfless love of a pet provides. Best to you and your family. It's very hard.

I seriously hope you caught up with the driver.

sorry to hear that, i do hope he went out fast.
uncle had a kitty that got hit, and dragged itself back to the house with guts hanging out...terrible way to go.

And you can't always blame the car either, animals don't always look both ways when crossing the road. I'm lucky there aren't any busy roads near my house, and that Boris&Bubba are quite carefull...

I am sorry, John.

Tough way to lose a pet. Sorry to hear of it.

Very sorry to hear it John, but I'm sure he had a great life with your family. What a nice send-off you describe. Godspeed Hobbes.

My parents have "lost" a cat. I suspect that it was hit by someone, and the body was cleaned up. My mother is still, somewhat, looking for the cat.

I'm sorry for the loss.

Halm 09-12-2009 06:11 AM

Very sorry for the loss.

Gogar 09-12-2009 06:24 AM

Sorry, John. RIP Hobbes. You did good for the kids though.

A fine looking cat. My condolences.
We plant a tree for each of our pets that have passed away.

Bummer.

Got 4 myself.

Marvelous creatures.

Sorry to hear.

trekkor 09-12-2009 08:18 AM

Sorry to hear this bad news.

Whenever I see a dead pet on the side of the road, I imagine a crying child.
I would cry, too.

I love my kitties.

Very sorry. People who know cats understand how loyal and affectionate they are, once you've earned their trust. I'm sure Hobbes had a great life.
