was it an "ASSAULT" samurai sword? full automatic? w/a bayonet on it? how many round clips on it? belt fed? was it BLACK? was it registered? was it concealed? did it have a "cop killer" edge on it?

sounds like a fine time honored tradition that should be P.C.!

a lil dated but an acceptable "STAND OFF WEAPON" system.

I think a sword would be a better HD weapon. I mean you would rarely have to use it. The perp would just shat himself when you came after him with a sword.

There is probably more justice with a sword than a bullet if the handler can be effective as this kid.

My sister works at JH and lives in the area. Never thought it was a good idea for her to buy a house there.

My wife recently suggested my niece look at JH for her undergrad, and I was against it for the reasons stated in the article.

The kid will be let off.

I just think it's a shame that the student can't keep the intruder's head on a pike in his front yard.

Actually, I think a sword would be hard to use inside a house. Probably much better as a personal protection (except for being so darn hard to conceal).

If you know how a sword can be used in extremely tight quarters.

The Samurai's short sword (wakizashi) was intended to be used in close quarters and carried alongside the longer Katana. But like Charles said, it does not have a safety. Might even be black and serated for a really nasty cut.

I like the reports of neighbors hearing a death scream....my guess is that the kid took two chops, once the hand, then the torsal.

Not a weapon I'd give someone who did not have extensive training.

I got news, facing a guy with a sword who has even rudimentary training, while you yourself are unarmed, is extremely unwise.

Sometimes the best bet is to just run screaming like a girl and hope for the best.

Kind of a tangent, but I stopped for gas and a soda at a truck stop yesterday, and they had their sale flier posted at the cash register. One of the things they had for sale was a Samurai Sword set.

So if you find your self near Lodi California and find yourself in need of a Katana or Wakizashi, head to the Flying J, they can take care of all your cheap samurai sword needs. If you are not near Lodi, you can order them online:

You joke, but my doctor friend just cut himself in our last iaido class (Japanese swordsmanship).

Blood on wood floor = much scrubbing.
