NY400 - Lots of action on the Hudson River today (pics)
Today was a celebration of Henry Hudson's exploration of NY Harbor and the Hudson river 400 years ago. We had Superboat racing:

The thin panels on the Dutch ship (midship) are buckled in as if to cause the golf ball effect, but the back of the ship is not as streamlined as the front.

Henry Hudson was English, but under employ of the Dutch. New York was a Dutch colony for the first 100 years...
Verrazano was an Italian under employ of the French - he discovered the harbor about 90 years before, but never sailed up the river.. |

Nah, didn't run in that race. We had a race down in Point Pleasant NJ yesterday. They are run by two different sanctioning bodies. We've had a scheduling conflict for the past few yrs.
That Hudson race is tough. Too many floating bodies and junk to avoid. ![]() ![]()

Stern (back) not as streamlined as the bow (front)? That's pretty much standard, except for canoes and rubber rafts. They typically don't spend much time in reverse. Last edited by tcar; 09-14-2009 at 10:36 AM.. |
