NY400 - Lots of action on the Hudson River today (pics)

Today was a celebration of Henry Hudson's exploration of NY Harbor and the Hudson river 400 years ago. We had Superboat racing:

Low flying helicopters filming the boat racing:

Dutch naval vessels (since Hudson sailed under a Dutch flag):

Replica of the Half Moon, Hudson's ship:

Ex-America's cup 12 meter racer:

Maxim photoshoot at my marina:

My parents rented a room for OP- Sail in 1976... I don't remember which hotel as I was a stoned kid....

It was an awe inspiring site seeing all those boats coming up the river...

The thin panels on the Dutch ship (midship) are buckled in as if to cause the golf ball effect, but the back of the ship is not as streamlined as the front.

Henry Hudson was English, but under employ of the Dutch. New York was a Dutch colony for the first 100 years...

Verrazano was an Italian under employ of the French - he discovered the harbor about 90 years before, but never sailed up the river..

Two different ships.

Nah, didn't run in that race. We had a race down in Point Pleasant NJ yesterday. They are run by two different sanctioning bodies. We've had a scheduling conflict for the past few yrs.
That Hudson race is tough. Too many floating bodies and junk to avoid.

Check the numbers... different ships.

Stern (back) not as streamlined as the bow (front)?
That's pretty much standard, except for canoes and rubber rafts.

They typically don't spend much time in reverse.
