And the world just passes by.....

World's largest solar power plant to be built in China
http://www.gizmag.com/worlds-largest-solar-power-plant-china/12806/

Solar panel roads to power our homes
http://www.gizmag.com/solar-panel-roads/12780/

I'm thinking about patenting some leather-lined knuckle guards. Anyone interested?

All the shade could ruin the ecology of the desert...We'd need extensive and expensive environmental impact studies before we could proceed.

Would it have a negative affect on any of the native Flora and fauna?

Also, it would destroy the scenic beauty.

Could do more harm than good.

I should have used green font

(edit) Arrrgh! Island must have posted while I was typing. Proving that weak minds think alike...

What we really need is a strong leader to do what's right, regardless of the consequences..(still waiting).......

I don't think the desert would be hurt by a little shade.
All I want is for Texans to be considered a little more refined than yurt-building/mares-milk-drinking Mongols

What's 'right' for one group is wrong for another. :-/

How much longer before solar becomes like "big oil"? ...you know, those evil solar energy companies, who only want us to turn on the lights when it's already sunny...

It's always sunny somewhere on the planet.
Didn't you read the "New World Order" mantra?

Ya gotsta start thinking Tesla, not Edison.
But, then again, he thought a global wireless communication system could be "free" back in 1920.

Turning the road into a solar power generators is really thinking out of the box. Gotta give'em credit for that. Whether is is practical or not is another story. Withstanding a truck is not so important as withstanding a snow plow...unless, as he mentioned the surface was heated.

Re China: Not surprised. Already been to the largest windmill farm in the world...and the 2nd. Both in China.

Much of the west of China is simply wasteland. The Taklamakan is without a doubt the driest, most brutal desert in the world with substantial portions below sea level. Perfect place for such constructions.
