Beatles on the radio and TV suddenly. MJ's death to thank?
Anybody else notice this? I just watched a marathon of old Beatles music videos yesterday, saw Beatles CDs for sale in Starbucks, and hear them on the radio all the time now.
It can't be a coincidence that MJ owned the rights to most of their catalog. Did Paul really inherit the rights back as per MJs will? Maybe he needs the money after pegleg milked him dry?

I'm not a Beatles fan but a local DJ is and, according to him, the date 09/09/09 was the release date for a new, remastered collection of songs. There is something about the number 9, apparently.
![]() I think is was just a coincidence that MJ died around the same time.

Makes sense.
But not a Beatles fan? I always scratch my head on that one. Their catalog is so rangey, that I find it hard to believe that anyone with an appreciation for music can't find at least one song by them that they appreciate.

Many many years ago, prior to MJ's hands starting to wander, He had made more money than Gawd, but he and his hangers-on (mostly with the same last name) were bleeding him dry.
Quincy Jones (one of the truly great people on this planet) still had MJ's ear, since it was QJ that had produced MJ's early stuff, and had gotten MJ set up in the business on his own (pre Sony). Quincy kept telling Michael that he had to invest in things (beside antiques, klitzy art and small PJ's) in order to survive the years to come. QJ brokered the deal for MJ to purchase all the copyrights to the entire Beatles music collection. MJ, over the years, has been 'otherwise occupied' to do much new with the collection. Since his death, his 'hangers-on' have resurfaced, and are once again bleeding him dry. Now that MJ's refusal to 'do anything' with the Beatles collection has been buried (pardon the pun), you are seeing the results of the first legal access to that collection in 25 years. Just remember where the profits are going. Somebody has to pay all the attorneys that are fighting over what's left of him. Somebody even has to pay Joe. |

I doubt MJ's demise had anything to do with it. Paul's life long ambition, his truly enormous contribution, his recent marital crisis and the embarrassment of that mistake, and his age really overshadow MJ's demise. That's not to say MJ's trials, his antics and all that were irrelevant. Ringo has been supportive of Paul all these years and they are both quite aware of their places in world history. I believe Paul jumped at the chance to restore and replant his legacy to the world. Not that he needed to, nor Ringo. My take is it was Ringo's idea at this time in our cultural evolution. Per usual, Paul recognized the good that can come of it and went wih it. It's comforting to me, somehow. The 'game' thing is a little cheesy but heck, we've up with cheesy Beatles stuff for 45 years.

There are no 'coincidences' in the entertainment business.
Recent events alone would put the kabosh on that theory. |

Yes it is. You can't remastered that quickly.
"Four years ago, after legal papers were signed by the catalogue's owners, engineers started cleaning up all twelve albums using state of the art equipment . . ." From an article Beatles Catalogue Remastered I have ordered the Mono Boxed Set. The reviews say it is amazing. Ian

I'm not a fan in that I don't get thrilled about the music as much as others. I think it's because I was not brought up listening to that style of music.
I respect the music and the guys for what they did and the groundbreaking recording techniques they used. The drums, however, just didn't inspire me. Being a drummer, I listened to more jazz and heavy rock as they drummer did more than just "keep time". That's not a knock on Ringo as he did his job very good.

As mentioned, the whole Beatles' media blitz we're going through was designed years ago; to remaster all those albums does take some time.
And, development of the "Beatles: Rock Band" game started in early 2007.

I guess it's my age, but I find my foot tapping & an urge to sing along whenever one of their classics comes on the radio. They are ingrained to us 50's somethings.
