A Ford that will outperform the Ford GT...
...if you have the legs...
Seriously, it probably doesn't get much better than this. The frame is hand-laid carbon fiber, hand-built by Serotta in Saratoga Springs, NY. More than likely it runs the highest end Campagnolo Super Record group or electronically managed Dura Ace (maybe SRAM Red -- I can't really tell in this photo). It does have carbon wheels which cost more than many of our Porsches, and probably weighs in at less than what the UCI deems a legal racing weight. I can't wait to see which rich retired San Marino software mogul shows up with this at the Rose Bowl. ![]()

That Dura Ace setup looks pretty cool. Better hope the batteries are charged before the race.
EDIT: I'm not even getting a red x. Didn't know there was a pic.

Here it is. The Serotta-Ford.
![]() Maybe Ford's getting into bike racing. Jeez, if so, the world better be put on notice. Ford's already built a bike-specific fitting van that's perfect for race support. ![]()

I've worked off and on for a few years with the development of carbon fiber wheels for formula race cars... ones for bicycles are a walk in the park compared to ones for a car pulling in excess of 3G. I've thought about a million times that I need to find some capital and start a business doing bicycles components.
Myself and a colleague developed a process for making carbon fiber structures that is creeping into bike frame construction now I believe. We never published unfortunately. One of these days...

There's always room for more components. So far SRAM is taking Campy and Shimano to the cleaners. The lowest level SRAM (retail $700 + or -) is said to be better than Shimano's top line Dura Ace. ![]() SRAM is American made, btw. Here in Cali as a matter of fact. Greg LeMond has a percentage of it. It's made him $$$$ millions.

Theres a huge amount of implications when I start thinking that way. Anything I develop here is property of the Uni, and they have patent lawyers if I really wanted, but unfortunately if I do develop something and go that route, they take 70% of any profits, making up for the free patent services. Without getting too much into it, starting my own LLC to manufacture and market anything I develop while here using Uni resources is illegal. That doesn't mean all my data on my laptop isn't mine to keep. Unfortunately as soon as I leave I lose access to all my composite ovens (which I built) and my freezers of carbon fiber (which I helped stock from), along with all the computer analysis software I know and love. Plus, the carbon composite bike world is pennies compared to the money I should be making applying last year's research project: computational fluid dynamics modelling of open wheeled, single seater racecars.

Pretty cool. I could totally see a new transit van outfitted as a support van.
