My 1998 Chevy S-10 4WD with V6 has tons of power and is real fun to drive. I have not towed with it other than moving my trailer around.

Every 70k the fuel pump is expected to go, a very expensive part and lots of labor to do. Other than that it's a good truck.

Purchased it back in February for $3,400 some rust in the typical places.

The best part is the custom mods I keep making.

I used to tow quite a bit with my 4 cyl Tacoma...the key is trailer brakes, they make all the difference in the world.

Another important aspect in towing with light trucks is load management, specifically knowing the limits of the entire set-up, the roads you'll be driving and how to load the trailer and bed properly.

I didn't get a big truck until I needed to tow a horse trailer...the little Tacoma did just great as long as I respected the limits and towed a trailer with brakes.

I second the bigger truck for towing cars, etc.

The V6 Ranger, Toyota and others will get things moving but will not fare well if the stuff hits the fan while towing their own weight. I have heard more than one story from friends which went along the lives of:"We were doing OK until.." and invariable finish with the work of getting the trailer out of the ditch and repairing any damage.

My F 150 only has the 4.2 V6 and a 5 speed, but works well with two horses in a trailer with its own brakes.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to unload the sheets of 4x8 ply.

An old Surburban makes for a great enclosed hauler and tow vehicle. I like being able to carry stuff and not worry about rain.

Oh, there is definately not like here.

They get REAL rain. I have been up where their rain came from, 9 miles up, and it was nasty up there. They have this drainage thang for their rain.

It has no similarity whatsoever to the Los Angeles River.


The one and only time I have ever used the windsheild wipers in an airplane (DC9) was at Chesterfield, Missouri. Anybody that flies knows you do not ever use those wipers unless you are avoiding Great Whites and swimmers on the way down.

Getting the drift? Folks are saying don't buy a quarter horse for a clydesdale job...

Or I give up the idea of a trailer.

My DD is a 1986 El Camino. I have always said the Elky is for hauling stuff and the 911 is for hauling A**

I don't know how someone can live without a truck of some sort. I would never try to pull a trailer with a car on it with the Elky but it does fine with a utility trailer and a moderate load.
