If only I would have...........

Listened to my mother about running with scissors. {still have the scar}

Spent as much time on school books as I did learning the guitar. {I'd have 3 degrees now}

Bought real estate in 1970 instead of pools and Porsche's.

Married that rich girl from Pasadena I was dating. {her grandfather died leaving the family millions}

Sold all the stock in my 401K about one year ago.

Oh Haha 09-22-2009 11:00 AM

Good thread.

Gone to college instead of chasing the rock star dream....

Realised the dream wasn't going to happen and gone to college then.

Gone to college instead of settling for what I thought would a lifetime of employment. Dumba$$!!!

fingpilot 09-22-2009 11:02 AM

flatbutt 09-22-2009 11:02 AM

Very unhealthy and counterproductive to "if only."

It's one of the worst things you can do to yourself.

flatbutt 09-22-2009 11:05 AM

we're very self deprecating here;)

Bought that '74 euro Carrera for $7500
Bought that z28 prototype for $5000
Bought Microsoft in 1988
Bought more real estate earlier
Not bothered with the MBA
Traveled before career
Studied less
Gotten a clue regarding my career earlier

Purchased a 911 before I was 43!

Whenever I play this game, I usually realize that the alternative was worse.

Most of mine revolve around banging some crazy chick when I got the chance...and realizing that then I'd have a clingy crazy chick to deal with....

You can drive yerself nuts with "coulda-woulda-shoula"...best that you avoid it.

Rikao-
You are so right.

I may not have met my wife not had 2 children with her. Man, if we could only peek into the future when we are young.:(

The Gaijin 09-22-2009 01:09 PM

Studied Chinese instead of Japanese!

s_morrison57 09-22-2009 01:16 PM

Stopped playing with it earlier, told my son what could happen, he said "I'm over here Dad"

Bill Douglas 09-22-2009 01:19 PM

Yes.

But, if you had done those things you may have driven through the traffic light 30 seconds earlier and been killed by that drunk driver. You may have gone to a different bar that evening and the chick you banged had aids. We are all pretty lucky.

Mind you I did date a girl from the Tresseder family. REALLY cute (they were small and pointy) and her family was worth phenominal money. Silly me.

Only if you never learn from it and dont apply the new knowledge to the next situation.

He turned into a riffle. He got sideways in the current and I was slow to release the fly line from my icy fingers.

I was in Alaska fishing in the Katmai. Cold afternoon getting ready to call it a day. It was an ENORMOUS trout. Big even for Alaska trophy trout. After I hooked him he made a fast upstream run. I was stripping in line as fast as I could. He turned. He was still on. When he jumped the first time, the guide was stunned. All he could say was "Damn..."

I was using pretty fine leader. Can't muscle this fish. When he runs he has the rod bent severely and I'm quietly praying for my knots to hold. I kept him on for about 5 minutes, I guess. He made countless runs and jumps. He was HUGE.

His last run was upstream. Too fast to keep the line on the reel I furiously stripped in fly line. He turned. Twang! The line broke and he was gone.

I've got lucky in many of those "wish I did" situations, all by pure luck. Shoulda bought into the 911 market that really took off? I did - bought my car less about a year before the market hit the roof. Even now that it's cool, it's worth 2 1/2 x what I paid for it. Shoulda bought into real estate before that took off? Again, got lucky. Our house went up over $75K in value by sheer luck, and some work.

No regrets. Ever.
