Chalk another one up for the good guy or girl in this case

Detroit woman kills alleged purse snatcher

DETROIT - A 43-year-old woman shot and killed a suspected purse snatcher who confronted her at a northwest Detroit gas station this morning, according to police. Two men approached the Detroit woman at about 5:30 a.m. at the Schoolcraft and Southfield Mobil station, Detroit Police spokesman John Roach said. The woman is licensed to legally carry a gun for self-defense, he said. "They didn't realize she has a CCW (license), so she had a weapon of her own," Roach said. "She fired several rounds at the suspects and they fled." The pair made off with the woman's purse. But about a half-hour later, a man with several gunshot wounds went to Sinai-Grace Hospital for treatment and died later this morning. "At this point, we believe this is one of the individuals in the robbery," Roach said about the man who was shot. Investigators recovered the woman's purse and believe the person who accompanied the wounded man to the hospital may be his accomplice, Roach said.

Too bad she'll likely be sued into oblivion for it. It's illegal to use deadly force to defend property. If she were in fear for her life, it'd be a different story but if it went down that way, she's open to HUGE liability right now.

Not that I don't think she's a hero - personally I think she is. Far as I'm concerned one SHOULD be allowed to use deadly force to defend property. We'd see a lot fewer property crimes.

I think two men vs. one woman is sufficient grounds to fear for one's life. Why should she be required to assume they'll leave her alone as soon as she hands over her purse?

In AZ two attacking one justifies deadly force by the one and if a bad guy has a weapon, doubly so.

Yet another reason to love AZ...

Believe me if it were up to me, I'd already be there. Or TX.

Yep. She can argue disproportionate force.

Man, I'm originally from Detroit, and trust me, few living in that area of Detroit have any assets worth suing for.
