Thanks for all the responses guys, makes me feel good to realize I'm not the only one out there...well, we talked about it and all is well now - nothing better than just getting it out in the open. What upset her alot was the fact that I got "nothing" for her (well, except a card) and to her I think she started to feel as though I put no thought or caring into the day or attached enough importance to it (she was the one that actually made dinner reservations, so I can't even claim that!)

Completely understandable I think, and I'll probably feel bad about this one for awhile because I hate to see my wife upset. I explained to her that I've allowed myself to get too caught up in my job these past few months and that I'll do a better job of balancing work & life, which I need to do anyway...

So, all is well until my next screw up!

Bear in mind: She has forgiven but it will NEVER be forgotten.

Now you are getting to the root of why your wife was upset...

That is something I struggle with alot - work often gets in the way and I come home late -- it's ok if that happens from time to time, but when it becomes the norm - that is bad. Probably the aspect of my relationship which needs the most work.

Make a commitment to make your relationship a priority over your work, and that will help a lot.

I bought my wife a panini sandwhich maker for her 40th birthday. There was an uncomfortable pause after she unwrapped it, but she smiled politely and said that she had, in fact, asked for one of these. I told her to open the box so I could show her one of the cool features. That's when she found the ring box and the gift certificate for a glider ride.

Our 15th anniversary is coming up. She'll be out of town and admitted that she probably would have forgotten if I hadn't mentioned it. We'll do cards and dinner. Yeah, I think I'll keep her.

Ours is tomorrow.

I've already confirmed with the wifey that we are only doing cards again so I am good.

+1

I'm going to start keeping a backup gift on hand just so I'm covered for any emergency! Motion, how have you been? Are you still in MT? You don't know me, just used to enjoy your posts...

Yes, you f'd this up, and you can't make up for it, but you still need to FIX THE PROBLEM.

Oh and Paul, my 2nd wife taught me NEVER to give a present to a woman that has a cord attached.

I second the "zero cord" policy! I would be better off forgetting our anniversary than bring something home that plugged into the wall.

Since I have been married for over 22 years, I've had my share of dinking up so my advice is buy flowers.....LOTS of flowers until you figure out how to dig yourself out of the hole.

Well, the night is almost over and I haven't farked it up with the wife.

In fact, I did a good deed which made her happy.

My new/used Corbeau seats arrived today so she knew I wanted to work on getting them installed ASAP and she had some sewing to catch up on anyway.

I needed a couple of pieces of steel for brackets so I ran to the store just before dinner. On the way there I thought it would be a good surprise to pick her up her favorite dinner from a local Italian place. Dorky? Yeah but so what.

I made tacos for the kids and I and she had her fettuccini alfredo.

We are pretty simple in our living so to her this was a big deal.

Ahhh....you're doing fine. She'll be throwin' that cat on you by Halloween. Just don't screw up Xmas. LOL
