OK, well. His mother died in a concentration camp, his wife and yet to be born child were savagely murdered. He has kept a low profile, had a very succesful career and done nothing reprehensible for the last thirty years, but you guys want "Justice" and throw him in jail for charges that his victim wants dissmissed? Sorry if I do not understand your justice system very well, but it doesn`t take a rocket scientist to see that it is all fuched up. And I usually don`t waste my time trying to understand things that don`t work.

Look at the bigger picture instead:

What??

Hey, I drugged and raped a minor, but SINCE then I have adopted bunny rabbits, voluntarily pet the puppies at the shelter, take my elderly neighbors garbage cans to the curb, never turn up the stereo volume past 6, and haven't drugged or raped a single minor.

I guess since the crime took place so long ago, it is no longer a crime. Got it.

You christian types have never heard the words forgiveness and redemption? I would have thought your justice system would have some of it in it. How silly of me .

Yes. I am all for forgiveness and redemption--the missing element in the Polanski case is the punishment phase of the entire thing.

You do a crime
You serve your sentence(punishment)
you ask for forgiveness/redemption

Living a millionaire's life in France while earning accolades and praise is not really punishment.

What has he done to pay for this crime??

McLovin 09-28-2009 09:04 AM

Sounds like the victim has forgiven him, now he will be given the opportunity to provide his redemption.

That sounds like a guess. He's not had anything happen that he got caught for that was a big deal in 30 years.

He could have been screwing little boys and girls the entire time.

If he did, he could be made a hero like Michael Jackson then. SmileWavy

is there a statute of limitations on any charges in this?

If there were, I doubt we'd be going to such lengths to nab him in a third country. I am kind of surprised these state charges have gotten so much help from the feds though.

Aurel 09-28-2009 12:56 PM

In this case, a presidential pardon from Obama would seem like an appropriate gesture. And it would also be a good occasion for him to warm up again with the polish, who have felt let down by the abandon of the missile shield. Maybe this is the way it will go, we`ll see.

Rick Lee 09-28-2009 12:58 PM

No POTUS in the world would consider pardoning a child rapist. Kidding me?

speeder 09-28-2009 01:02 PM

Jesus, Aurel... drunk-posting again??

Statutes of limitation apply to being charged with a crime. He was charged and pled guilty in 1977. He has been a fugitive since then. (Skipped bail).

I guess I thought that everyone knew this.

Aurel 09-28-2009 01:05 PM

I gotta keep the thread alive. And you ain`t seen nothin with Obama yet :D.

Noah930 09-28-2009 01:49 PM

Higgins has a good point. The victim wants this dropped. Shouldn't that count for something? Do we have to drag her through this all over, again?

At the same time, this guy's gotten away with a pretty big deal, IMO. If he had just raped your 13 yr-old daughter last month, I'd think you'd think the same. Being on the lam for 30 years shouldn't excuse him from what he's done. There is an element of justice that is (for better or worse) blind.

And from a selfish personal safety issue, whether or not he's been behind bars, executed, rehabilitated, or AWOL, by being persona non grata for so many years, at least he's effectively been removed from the American population to prevent him from doing the same to anyone else. Well, at least here in the U.S.A. The rest of the child rapist-loving Euros can fend for themselves. I don't know if I'd be actively pursuing him around the world, but I certainly know I wouldn't throw this guy a pardon, were I POTUS.

Thx - NOPE, maybe everyone else but me knows it tho.

Want to know the ONLY thing I know about Crim. Law?

If you put "%" into the search terms you use on WestLaw, it will exclude all the criminal cases for you!

What exactly is she going to be dragged through? Not like she has to testify against him at a trial, he confessed. If the media will leaver her alone, she won't be dragged through anything.

Fat chance of the media leaving her alone though......

PUNISHMENT ENOUGH?

Okay, I get it, you're joking. Sorry. Use the green type from now on.

It is stupid of you.

There was a man who killed a bunch of Amish children in the state of Pennsylvania. The families of the children killed forgave the man who did it, so obviously he should go free
You are just looking for an argument. You are wrong, and nothing you can say will make you right.

oh, btw, I corrected your mistake in capitalization in your quote, you sad atheist SOB.
