Bill, how exciting. LOA? 45-50'? Hard to tell from the pics. Looks a little serious, offshore racing? Tell us more.

I sometimes think that cars are too expensive, then I remember that there are boat guys and everything seems alright.

BOAT= Bring Out Another Thousand!
A buddy of mine has a sign at the helm of his boat that says "A boat is a hole in the water into which you pour money".
Looks very cool!!!

Sailing is like.................

Standing in a cold shower tearing up $1,000 bills.

But I like that.

It'll be a 3/4 replica of the Schooner America,

here's a pic of a full size clone(above the waterline and above deck) of the original America which we built in '95, that clone was all Port Orford Cedar but w/ veneered carbon masts & spars as the only trick components. The new replica will be trick in every way you can imagine

What would the time line for construction on something like this be?

Bill, if I may ask, where will she be berthed? Glenn

My wife and I took a sail on the Schooner America a few years ago when we were in the Florida Keys. She is a beautiful ship !

The America built for an impatient customer took ~ 1.5 yrs, this one is for us and is being built as there is spare time and money will take longer

We have 3 others in NYC and 1 in Newport RI, this one will go to NYC

Sunroof 10-05-2009 01:53 PM

Stunning project. Magnificent schooner. Will she be powered?

Do you charter the one in Newport, RI? My wife is from Providence, so we get up there often and we always get over to Newport and book some time on one of the local charter schooners for a bay sail.

I am envious. Wanna sail-swap? You can sail our Catalina 30 Mark II in challenging Lake Lanier, GA whenever down here for a sail in Newport? :D

Please keep us posted on the progress.

Bob
