anyone ever take a tactical home defense class? pistol stuff.

you know how a pro enters a room with a firearm? who teaches that stuff? my bro the SWAT dude lives to far away, besides i dont like listening to him.

would be cool to actually know how to use my pistols better and more efficiently. or even a shotgun class? i can knock down clay pigeons relatively well. it would be cool to know how to clear my home of boogymen, with any of my weapons.

i noticed law enforcement guys dont even pull their pistols until they are facing in the direction of the threat....

I would run snickering from any class with the name "tactical" in it. Honestly.

If you want solid combat skills i suggest the Infantry.

I haven't been in a couple years, but the local club used to run 3 gun matches with an emphasis on sound tactics. Most of the top guys were Gunsight or Front sight grads, and were pretty good at passing on knowledge. May be worth looking in to.

Are you still in the bay area?

My point was that the word "tactical" has become a marketing term and no longer can be trusted to have any practical meaning. Choose your course carefully.

But hey, a stint in the Army reserves or NG would sure teach you how to fight too...and give you "free benefits" to boot.

if you live in LA I know a guy who teaches actors so they look like they have a clue.... he's retired fed but subsidizes his income teaching urban techniques. I met him on the skeet range and he's a really great guy.

Befriend an ex-SpecOps or Ranger and have them teach you. I didn't even have to ask - they volunteered once they found out I had a proper armory.

Vash, every issue of the NRA's American Rifleman lists schedules for such classes all around the country. I did a practical shoot at the NRA once where they had the range set up like a house, targets came swinging in on zip lines and we had to shoot ambidextrous from cover. It was pretty intense. They even shout at you like a frathouse hazing ritual to get your blood pumping. I shot pretty well, considering. I need to do that again sometime. Also, you can probably go on SIG's and Glock's websites and see when they're pro teams are holding classes in your area.

I must admit that I'm curious; what exactly is your background in the military?

I gather that you weren't career material or you wouldn't be hangin' in the slums of Philly, that you seem to condescend to with derision, reposessing cars for a living - wha hoppen?

To be specific, how much time did you serve?

Where did they send you?

What action have you seen?

You seem to want to come across as an uber-warrior - whaddaya got ta back it up with (Viet Nam vet, much older than you, would like to know)?

Quite interestingly, i've noticed you throw the "im a vietnam vet and have killed people" line around quite a lot. This is at least the 6th time i've seen you reference your vietnam "creds." In one thread some months back you even bragged to having killed people. What's up with that?

I was in the US Army Infantry in the late 80s. I was just another nasty ass leg that has been shooting since he was 5 years old. Nothing special, but the Army certainly does teach it's infantrymen how to fight. In the years since i've had a variety of jobs that compelled me to carry a firearm, which i've done for about a decade.

So do you have an ear necklace from your days back in "the nam"?

LOL.

PS: You're on my ignore list, but for some odd reason i decided to click on this post of yours. Sure glad i didn't waste my time.

One of the problems with these forums DARISC is that people can essentially create any reality they want online to make themselves souund like something they are probably not in real life.

I met one... he poses as a mechanic with a lot of material wealth... but in reality he is a homeless petty criminal whose only possessions are pathetic ghetto jewelry... but online he can act like he's a big shot.. it's really sad.

Yeah, they can even be vietnam vet killers and mention it anytime they want to disagree with someone.

LOL.

Whatever.

You simple minded, pretentious fool. Put your money (be it even the pittance I suspect you would struggle to come up with) where your mealy, macho, wannabe military mouth is and dredge up any post that I have ever posted wherein I state that I have ever killed anyone.

Mark021 pretty much nails it and you definitely qualify as a poster boy...and the operative word is "boy".

Grow up, present yourself to the world as who you truly are, whoever that might be, and confront, accept and deal with the consequences. Accept/recognize that the years will quickly take their toll on you and you won't be up to snatching cars in the middle of the night as you boast that you are able to do now .

If your internet persona is to be believed (you could be a 22 yr. old, 120 lb bank teller living your fantasies on PARF for all I know), why aren't you on active duty? Our country needs people like you in our armed forces...uhhh, let me rethink that.

So, what action did you see that leads you to speak so authoritatively about matters of who should live and who should be fkng blown away? Can you even talk the talk, much less walk the walk?

Hey! Let's hear it! You spend so much time here, it must be really important for you to get it out. Spill it "sniper"!

There is a great school in AZ called gunsight, my friend went there for a CCW and some close quarters training. He said it is a little pricey but worth it. I guess they go over a lot of federal law scenarios on when / how and why to shoot.

Nobody cares.

How about you guys take this off line and stop schitting up Cliff's thread.

Cliff you still in the bay area? Looks like Chabot offers some basic classes that you may find interesting.

You have to admit this is a valid point.

Generally if you point out to the guy at the range that hanging all the extra crap off his rifle doesn't make it "tactical" they get a little surly. Tactics is what you do, not what you buy.

The local gun shop where I took my CPL (concealed pistol license) training offers a class called "combat handgun" with the same instructor that ran my class. Based upon the high quality of instruction we received in her class, I'd take this course...

Three hours of standing around and maybe getting 50 rounds off in that time. Not great practice.
