Drywall? 3 surface outside corner
 

OK, so a 3 wall inside corner is normal, but an outside corner is not. How do you do an outside corner so it still looks good.

WHen I did a search on the internet, all I could find was a patent for a corner piece to do what I needed, but neither the Lowes or HD have them (I assume because it's an unusual problem).

Just as Tim T stated, you need to use cornerbead, dovetailing each metal edge into the corner. In addition, you need to apply texture with premixed joint compound using an 18 inch to 24 inch blade/trowel (the longer the better) consistent with the texture type/design of your other walls, filling in the gap/elevation difference between the drywall and the elevated metal bead edge (the elevated bead becomes the hard outside edge of each piece of drywall. Apply joint compound to the three piece outside corner in the approximate desired shape with a small trowel/blade. Allow the joint compound to dry. Sand and reapply more as needed. Let dry, again, and final sand.

Yes, metal corner bead. Line it up at the point, cut corners at greater than 45 degrees. Use a short six inch straght edge to make sure that the bead is proud of the drywall on both sides of the corner or you will be unable to mud it correctly. All three pieces should touch at the point of the corner, and you can make a super precise box corner this way. I get the piece in alignment, and nail it with one inch crown staples. Don't try to nail through two pieces at once, and wear eye protection.

OK, thx guys. I've got some of that, but wasn't sure that trying to cut the 3 corners and get them to meet would be the way to go.

I hate doing anything that involves drywall. The work is not hard, but it's hard to get the work done perfectly. Our house was put up in '67. I think that makes it worse. Nothing is quite the same as the new stuff that we buy. There are times that I think it would be great to just gut the whole thing and put all new in. Then I think about how much mudding would be involved....
