Why is that power line hanging so low?
Well i'll tell you why.
I was cutting fire wood up on the ridge between our property and the neighbors and decided to fell a crooked looking maple tree. So i decide that the best way to fell it so that it wouldn't get hung in the surounding trees and i could winch it out with the tractor was to drop it towards the power line that runs up the hill. Well i eyeballed it up, walked out to the lines back to the tree, and figured i had enough room. So i give the saw a tug and commence to whittle away on it and she drops right were i was aiming for. I cut two 20 foot logs off, winch them up to the tractor and proceed down the hill toward the house. When i pop out of the woods into the field i notice the sagging power lines:eek: After i drop the hitch at the wood shed i head back up to check out my handywork and discover that i miscalculated by about 4 feet and have taken down the lines. But wait theres more. As i look down the hill towards the house the pole has snapped off a the base.:( So back to the house i go to call the the power co-op and fess up, but the phone is out (both phones are digital and require power) so i head down to the village and call. When i get back to the house my neighbor is there and tells me that the pole behind his daughter's house is down.:( So lets check the score here 1 tree 2 power poles is that a triple? Anyway the power's back on (Just bearly) been out since about 1:30. Just for the record Dunc (the neighbor) was telling that he remembers when they set those poles, he was 10 and is now 81. They pulled the lines with a team of horses. You can blow out your candles now i'm done. |
Wow, congrats! Seems like you put in a good days work. ;)
Cool story about the neighbor seeing them put in 70 year ago though. |
I did that once. :) Instead of felling some power lines, I felled the tree smack dab in the center of a neighbors car. Pounded that roof right down to the seat tops. :D
From then on...I leave tree felling to a professional...and that would not be ME. |
