Local shooting in Toledo made national news... need to get my CCW
 

This shooting happened at a bar about a mile from where I work in Toledo Ohio. I drive thru these trashy urban areas daily on my drive to work. After hearing about Kurt V's incident, I am thinking it would be wise to get my cocealed carry permit as I would hate to caught in the middle of something like this without a weapon.

Apparently these POS city thugs were not the best markmen. ;) If they catch them, I hope they give them some range time then release them in hopes that they take each other out the next time. ;)

You probably don't hang in those kinds of places, but you'd not be able to (legally) carry there if you had a CCW. I can't believe how many gunbuster signs there are throughout OH. Here they don't have the force of law and you can ignore them, as long as they don't serve alcohol there.

Yeah Rick, I do not "hang" in those kind of places, but the last mile of my daily drive to work goes past several housing projects and I on occasion stop at a gas station or fast food joint in the area. I just ordered a couple 17 rd mags for my new IDPA Glock 34 and the website stated they cannot ship to California and a few other states, but they also listed Toledo, Ohio. I checked it out and the "city" of Toledo has a law prohibiting removable mags over ten rounds..... Good thing I live about 40 miles from Toledo as my 20 and 30 round AR mags along with my new Glock would be illegal.

God I hate urban settings.... The laws and ordinances imposed on law abiding citizens are getting ridiculous. I am fairly confident that the thugs in the video don't give a d@mn about the laws and no doubt broke all of them. The laws simply keep law abiding citizens from protecting themselves from these POS thugs.

Tim I applied for my cc permit about a month ago. Still waiting for the SBI, FBI, and medical history checks that had to be done, could take up to 90 days.

National News, it's International News. We even got it on the news waaaay out here in New Zealand.

Get your CHL/CCW. It is a good thing.

You can get your permit in Pennsylvania in under a week, start to finish. Just renewed mine in Montgomery county, it's a lightning fast process. They don't even fingerprint you.

1. Stop going to that gas station.
2. Get your CHL.
3. Figure out how you will carry and draw when belted in your car seat. Maybe a holster between the seats?

In the car i usually just put my pistol under my thigh (do not do this with a Glock).

What about a cross draw holster? People are negative on them but I'm not sure why. Seems you could draw when seated.

That is the one real reason to ever consider one IMO. A horizontal shoulder rig is even better IMO (i had a Galco Miami classic that i used for many years with my S&W 9mm), though i don't wear a seatbelt. With a seatbelt on drawing from one might be problematic.

Under the thigh is fast, and provided you have the right kind of gun is reasonably safe, though if you were in an accident im sure it would go flying down onto the floorboard, which could obviously be problematic if someone just ran you off the road in a fit of rage, or something like that.

I have seen specialized car cross-draw holsters before, they are around.

I just got a glove-like synthetic Blade-tech IWB holster for my P7, that's what i most prefer for real world day in and day out carry. I'll take a pic and post it for ya.

I wear both these holsters in the same area, behind my strong side hip. Both have the 15 degree "FBI cant," and can be drawn from from a strapped in seated position, though it's not exactly fast.

Synthetic setup is IWB Blade tech and Fobus paddle double pouch.

I prefer no thumb break on my holsters.

I had a couple custom holsters made for my kel tec p32 but to be honest i prefer to just carry it with the integral belt clip.

My father in law fixed up a spot under the seat of my wife's truck, took out some of the foam to create a place for it to nestle, surprisingly easy to grab, you can't see it unless you stick your head all the way under the seat. She would stick it in her boot when she got out.

They are making the gun laws even worse here, those stupid MFers

I used to have a spot under the steering wheel on my old '85 Daytona Turbo Z that the clip on my Bianchi inside the pants holster would snap right onto securely. That was great, but it was the only car i've ever had where that worked.

I've had my CPL (concealed pistol license) for 18 months now and I carry whenever I can. I feel vulnerable when I'm not carrying it. Be sure you read up (I subscribe to Concealed Carry magazine), spend some quality range time and take a "combat handgunner" course of some kind. Know your pistol inside and out!

BTW, I carry a Sig P239 in 9mm, and I'm very happy with it, but there are a lot of good concealable pistols out there. Get one that you can comfortably carry. If you buy a full size 1911 .45ACP that you don't carry, it won't help you...

:eek: I bet these thugs are proud as can be about the coverage this got. No doubt they will run mouths and eventually get turned in.

I have a nice little FEG PA-63 (9mm x 18 mak) that I can use for carry. That said, I really am starting to like my Glock 34 competition pistol and will probably end up buying a small Glock for carry eventually as I REALLY like the simplicity of them. While the Glock triggers kind of suck for bullseye type shooting, they are awesome for IDPA type or fast action shooting as you don't have any safeties to worry about or fumble with in a hurried draw. Just draw, insert finger into well once on target and squeeze...gun goes bang every time.

+1. I Keep a compact .45ACP with me most of the time I can, but my .380ACP is ALWAYS with me.

Reminds me, I need to send the barrel off to have the nickle plating re-done.
