thanks! People just think it's a rich person problem and honestly it is the worst pain i ever had. I am gonna diet and start becoming more active to help curb this; since it really has effected me in the past few lazy years...I am thinking it as "mother nature's motivation NOT to be lazy"
|
the most painful thing I have ever had. Worse than any nasty sports injury and I have had a lot of nasty sports injuries. When I have an attack I cant do anything, my wife has to help me into the car and right over to the doc for a shot of whatever he puts into my teo and in a couple of hours its gone. Urich acid crystals in your blood get lodged in the joint mostly in the big toe. alcohol, and rich foods, no more pate or sweet breads or liver.
|
My Doc says I have high uric acid level and had me on Allopurinol for 6 months before I took myself off. I have never had gout before and feel that I'm already on too many meds...blood pressure stuff, cholesterol stuff, and OTC Prilosec for chronic heartburn. I eat healthy and exercise pretty regularly and feel too young (46) to be on this many meds.
How does Gout pain levels compare with a moderate kidney stone event? A few years back I had a kidney stone and thought I was gonna die. |
I never had a stone so i cant say. I took the alllopurinol for 2 years and then like you I am now on, aderol, a statin, lexpro, and a multi vitamin.. enough is enough.
|
You guys need to eat more oatmeal, fruit, that sort of thing, less of whatever you have been eating.
I had a friend describe a stone as feeling like he was fixin' to die, and wishing it would hurry up and happen. With gout, they say that the sheet brushing against it made it feel like it was on fire when they woke up in the middle of the night. |
I'm a vegetarian and drink no alcohol whatsoever. I eat the healthiest diet you can imagine and it seems to have no effect on my gout...

Looks like I joined this group to... Woke up Sat morning, ankle felt stiff, until I put weight on it, then it felt like I got whacked with a 2X4:eek: Though I had another staph infection, went to the Doc today, he thinks it may be Gout, took some blood & put me on meds...
Thing is, I drink a lot of water, haven't had any alcohol (not even wine) in close to 2 months, also drink lots of Grape juice, don't eat big portions of anything.. So once again, I have something that makes no sense...... |
Byron, I was on vacation going from Yosemite to Yellowstone. I wanted to lose a bit of weight so I fasted. I have had gout before from too many ribs to a dissolving tumor. On the way to Yellow stone I got it. I looked it up on my i phone and it said you can get it from fasting also. I just can't win. I don't get full blown attacks but my joint in my big toe snaps when I walk, so then I hurry with the meds and ward it off. Painful I know.
|
when my ankle was acting up, just the weight of the foot, trying to fall sideways when I was laying on my back, was so painful that I couldn't sleep. Gout, if that is what I had, is not fun at all.

My father eats black cherries and he says it fixes it right up for him.

Byron,
I'm sorry to hear that you may have the dreaded gout! Mine seems to be triggered by lentil soup and asparagus, but I used to eat large amopunts of these 2 things, thinking they were good for me. I now eat small portions of lentil soup, no asparagus and I mix tart cherry concentrate with lemonade (no added sugar) and drink this every evening. There is new evidence to support the theory that high fructose corn syrup is a culprit, but just try to avoid that! I eat fish or chicken once a week, all other meals are vegetarian. So far, this regimen has helped keep the gout under control for me. I hope you find what works for you, and soon! |
Thanks guys, my left ankle has been making noise for years, even when & was doing physical therapy it was making lots of crackling..
This is the warning that was in my meds, and still waiting to hear what the blood test says...:eek::eek: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1259134364.jpg |
so what is the Byron, indomethacin?

Sounds like you lost out on the genetics derby for protein metabolism. |
I'm still on my vegetarian diet, drink no alcohol of any kind, eat tart cherries or drink tart cherry juice every day and my gout still flares up every year. I avoid foods that are high in purines (salmon, asparagus, lentils, etc...). I took Aleve the past 2 weeks to control the gout pain and it was effective. I drink 1 gallon of water a day and do everything else I'm supposed to do. I sure wish they would come up with a cure for gout!

Pain from gout makes a grown man cry!!! I manage my diet, and still get a gout attack once in awhile... |
I stopped eating shrimp and mussels a little over a year ago and have not had even one flare-up since. Pretty remarkable. Good luck working with yours!
