The Boys in Boot Camp

He left for RTC Great Lakes on the 8th, We got his box back on the 12th and a letter today which gives his Ship and Division, he added a note on the form that said, all is going well, just awaiting the medical so he can do the PST for special opps.

Well, this should wipe that grin off his face now wont it:D

Oh Haha 10-17-2009 02:01 PM

You must be very proud of him.

Here's to him doing well and reaching whatever goal he has set for himself in the service.

Do him a HUGE favor: send no cookies, no pictures, nothing personal until he graduates.

Your really outstanding young man will thank you later.

Well done, cgarr.

Very Proud of Him!, We were warned about sending care packages unless you want it opened in front of the entire Division:D

...after enough time has passed, if he needs a pre-paid calling card, drop me a line. ;) Good luck to him

glewis80SC 10-17-2009 03:51 PM

Congrats, you must be very proud.

svandamme 10-17-2009 04:31 PM

send him a care package with some barbed wire in it.
if the above is true, they'll have a good laugh out of it, with him, not at him.

If he has a girl friend, perfume and lots of hearts and flowers cheer up the Drill Instructors. :D:D

Great son and I wish him well.

Congrats, tell him we're all proud. :)

It's been awhile since I posted here but wanted to say congrats to you and your son. I went through boot camp at RTC Great Lakes in '95. Was forced out in '06 and I have missed the Navy ever since.

Back when I was in basic, a couple of my douchebag friends decided to send me a perfumed, heart covered package with a pair of panties in it. Needless to say, that went over well with my Drill Sgts.

Talk him into getting a good "A" and "C" schools, and to start/finish college while he's in the USN, if that's at all possible. I was in the USN from '82-'91 as a Hospital Corpsman and was able to finish my BS degree while I was in, that really helped when I entered the tough job market in '91.

I'm sure he has all ready done this through his recruiter so that it was part of his contract. You don't want to enter boot camp without a school all ready lined up. Hopefully he wants to be an FC cause I can't imagine wanting any other job. ;)

My Grandfather went through Great Lakes... talked about it his entire life as one of the greatest experiences he ever had.

That and "fighting the wars" on Rush Street in Chicago!

Good luck to your son.. and Thanks from another citizen.

i think my dad did his RTC at Great Lakes too. he started in november though, said it was just little cold. this coming from a Wisconsin farm boy says something...

we have photos of him doing fire drills and the spray is freezing as it is coming out of the hose.

cgarr 10-22-2009 12:06 PM

Well we just got our first two page personal letter from the boy! He is having a good time and really likes it but said there are a lot of old guys here, late 20's and 30's He really enjoys the workouts, said he is not having any problems with them, they are a lot like dry-land when he used to swim. They are now in their Navy camouflage with his name, which is pretty cool. One other boy is in his division who is also trying out for the Seals too so they are working together on it. The food is pretty good, he really fills his plate, no midnight snacks anymore I guess. We have about 6 letters in the pipe line to him but it may be a few weeks til he gets them, he really wants everyone to write him and we are. Oh and their division is one of very few with girls in it too!
