What is the average lifespan of an outdoor car cover?
I am tired of having to buy a new one every 6-9 months. I've had covers that is supposed to have 2 to 3 year warranties on them, but don't last more than 9 months. Any suggestions?

We have an outdoor cover for Steve's cabby. I bought it from California Car cover. It was the most expensive cover I have ever purchased.... I believe it was around $400 but has lasted 6 years so far. When I ordered it, I spoke with the sales rep and was very clear that the cover would be for outdoor use. I cannot remember the material name, but it was specifically for sun/water outdoor use. I did have to have the stitching re-done on one side by a local upholstery shop last summer. Other than that, it appears I'll get several more years out of it.
Several more years of OUTDOOR storage. angela

The basic problem with car covers is that the ones that are waterproof also trap condensation under the cover, and the ones that breath aren't waterproof. I try to avoid storing a vehicle outside at all costs.
That said, neither of you (who posted above me) have to contend with snow. Sounds like if this is something you have to do, Angela's recomendation is the way to go.

Is a car port an option? I like those better than car covers.

you can get water and snow resistant covers that still breathe.
this is a great cover for long term outdoor storage. it will last years, even outdoors. it is highly water resistant. in light to med rains you car will stay completely dry. even in a long, heavy storm, water doesn't get through the cover, although some light moisture might. The ones with the shape-hugging rubber band tend to wipe off the dirt/grease along the bottom, then wipe it across the hood the next time it's used.

When I had my race car I used two covers, one (inner) was very expensive and breathed to let moisture out but kept rain off the car. The outer cover was the sacrificial cover, not water proof at all and would last about a year in the San Diego area. The inner cover lasted around 10 years if I remember correctly.
