E-Bay Motors sale questions
I know some of you guys have sold or purchaced cars using e-bay motors.
I never have but I'm thinking about it. I have a couple questions I hope someone can answer for me. I really could find the info. on e-bay. First. About how moch does it cost to list a car? Does it depend on the selling price? If so around $14,000. Second. If your car is listed on other forums such as Pelican can you reserve the right to end the auction early if you have an offer that is not through e-bay? If so, even if there has been a bid? Thanks!

Ya the cost of the listing depends on the sale price. Yes you can reserver the right to sell outside of ebay provided the bid reserve has not been met.

Be careful selling on ebay. Not so much for the scams, those are easy to spot, but for the virtual tire kickers. I've got a Suburban running on ebay right now (work repo) and I keep getting the same stupid questions - what's your reserve? What's the lowest you'll take for it? It's really only one step above craigslist.

not true, Sid. it's $125 for a "successful" car listing. ie: you get a bid, and you have no reserve. if you want a reserve, it's an additional $7.
parts and accessories are charged based on sale price. I've sold and bought probably 10 cars on ebay. it used to be that it was $40 to list it, and then another $40 if it actually sold. I sold my '72 911S on ebay for $32K, and it cost me $80 for the listing, in total.

btw...there's a lot of thought that should be put into WHEN you have your listing end. think about your audience. if you want to attract west coast buyers, or east coast buyers, etc. make it end during a time either when people are at work (and have time to mess around on the computer) or night, right before bed. a lot of buyers will wait to the last minute, and then forget about the auction they wanted to watch. weekends are bad times to end auctions (unless it's a sunday night) because a lot of people are out doing things...either traveling, going to the lake, etc.

...also, if it's a niche car, peruse the auctions to see if another car just like yours is listed. if so, don't list when they do....you're just going to kill the bidding on your own car.
I tried selling my '65 Mercedes 190 on ebay...and it took 3 attempts because another guy kept listing his car when I listed mine...and (prior to private bidding) he was emailing my bidders and trying to coax them into bidding on his car, versus mine. Ebay actually suspended his account because of it.
