Vaccinated for Chicken pox in 1998... Diagnosed today in 2009

God is this awful, I thought only 4 year olds get this...I'm 21... what's the point of the vaccine if this is gonna happen?

sorry for my rant

it's a form of herpes isn't it. they planted the seed and 10 years later it sprouts.

Hay, chicken pox is a walk in the park compared to it's cousin, shingles. Just pray that you don't get that in about 30 years...(they are related)

True Dat.... chicken pox in the second grade, shingles at 55. A relatively mild case of shingles but it can be really bad. Get the shingles shot if you already haven't.

Got it when i was around 6 - 3 dots. That was it. Three little itchy specks. There were other kids who got covered in them. I guess I was just lucky.

thinkfloyd,

presuming all went well with the vaccination, it seems that perhaps the 'pox you got is not what the vaccination was for. I don't recall what the window of effectiveness on the vaccination is for the 'pox nor which ones it covers.

Folks use the term 'pox as all encompassing. Are you sure you have the specific pox for which you were vaccinated for or perhaps something similar yet different. For example shingles?

Godspeed to you and recovery!!!

Carlton

I also caught a small dose as a child. Then when i was 30 i copped the full blown version.
The itching drove me crazy! Fortunately i escaped with only 1 facial mark.
Pinetarcill was my best friend! I must had had 10 baths/day to releive the itching!

Funny story......when i was at the peak, i was pulled over at night by a copper [highway patrol man]. He strolls up to my window, shines the torch in my eyes, & says "Dont mind a little smoke eh?"
I replied, "What are you on about?"
His reply, "red glassy eyes, been having a smoke tonight eh?"
I couldn't believe what i was hearing. I said, "shine your torch on my face mate, & check out the full blown chicken pox!"
I seriously looked like an industrial accident gone wrong! He glanced at my face, then took a huge leap backwards! He never approached the window after that, instead prefered to keep his distance. Hahaha

Dude I feel your pain

I got a horrible case of Chicken pox my Freshman year of college. They had to quarentine my dorm. I've never been as sick as that in my life. I even got them in my throat. I finally went to the ER, they have me this giant pill for herpes, and the next day when I woke up, my tounge was hanging out. The pill dried up everything in my system, and the pox were gone in a couple of days.

Chicken pox as an adult is no laughing matter. They have drugs for that stuff, don't be miserable.

i think there are a couple strains of chicken pox... just like there is hepatitis... you can get vaccinated for A and B but not C... so i think you got vaccinated for one strain of pox but not the other... what luck huh... lol.. dont scratch.. wear socks on your hands.. haha..

Actually if the case is very mild you can get pox again.

Thanks I am already seemingly recovering and a lot of the rashes are scabbed by now, the Dr said it was definitely chicken pox but milder because of my vaccination.
