But that is also saying that a Shelby Mustang is a warmed over Falcon. The original Vette had a straight six, but that doesn't have any bearing to the Z06 or ZR-1's of the past and current Corvette's. One could go on and on...

All car's have their heritage tied to something. The 928's basic layout is the same as the American Pony car, does that mean a 928 is a Pony car (V8 up front rear wheel drive)?

Its a retarded argument, that is always brought up by a non 911 owner.

Bill

you are way off base

many parts on a 356 can be found in the VW parts bin

speaking of retarded & non-911 owners...

I thought it was the "Swiss Cheese Catalina"'s that had that layout. Looks like Sniper hit a direct hit on a nerve.

No, Porsche wasn't ahead of the times. Pontiac was. The '62 and '63 LeMans came with a rear transaxle for better weight balance.

Tempest (I think). Design was done under DeLorean.

Part of the reason for the rear transaxle was to be able to use some parts and geometry of the Corvair tranny. It had IRS unlike the Buick and Olds versions.

The driveshaft was curved and flexible w/ bearings, but seemed to work fine.

Not the 'Swiss Cheese Catalina'. That was just a lightweight full-size Catalina. It had a solid rear axle/diff with front tranny.

Isn't this just VW saying "You're my ***** now, Porsche."

Most likely...

I think opening up the 911 platform to VW/Audi is kinda crap. That needs to be a Porsche only thing...

I think it's great. It is as if the circle is now complete. :D

I doubt there will be an entry priced below the Boxster, unless the Bluesport comes to market. It has a projected price of $30k. Speculators said it could be the next 914.

The 928 was the first car with passive 4 wheel steering. So it has that going for it at least. ;)
