Thinking about getting this one...

Does anyone have experience with them? How was the reliability? Do they still suffer from the old British car stigma?

I think you'd have better luck on a board that's remotely associated with those cars.

Watch Top Gear...they always have the Astons on there

fingpilot 10-24-2009 05:28 PM

My boss used to drive one. When it started, the roar would turn every head. When it started.

You'll love it. Not the best handling of the high dollar cars, but they sound great, look great, have beautiful interiors and they go! With the V8 Vantage, a V12 isn't mandatory anymore. Although AM and V12 somehow just go together.

Rikao4 10-24-2009 05:40 PM

timely..
just watched Top Gear boys..flogging the Aston,911& M6..
911 ahead by almost 10 seconds with about 100 less Hp..
forget who said it..
what will the Aston do..?
start maybe was the refrain...

Always loved Astons, but be prepared to take a serious bath on a new one. That car will depreciate $25k+ the instant you drive it off the lot. Case in point - there is an `09 Vantage coupe at the Scottsdale dealer here for $106k with 128 miles on it. The one pictured above is listed @ $133k (which is `08 DB9/V12 territory). With a little patience/diligence, last year's model V8 can be had for under $90k as well. At the very least, you should be able to do a bit better price-wise, and/or find a Sports Pack model.

I've always loved the old MGB/GTs, and this one looks good. I say go for it.

I now officially hate you SmileWavy
I love those cars.

They only suffer from the "Old British Car Stigma" if they are actually Old British car. This one have a few more years to go before becoming an "Old British Car". LOL

Thanks for the input Eric. I wouldn't mind a car with 128 miles on it, if it saved 25k. :)

Do you know if one can do an ECU dump on these cars that will reveal the state of over-revs? You can on the 997s. It is a cool feature.

Looks a bit too Japanese for a Brit car. Hopefully they picked up some cues on reliability as well.

Compare it to a Cayenne S Turbo...

A car is a utility like a washing machine

SAVE YOUR MONEY U are going to need it..

My financial advisor says people who own MB look rich but aren't rich, because they spend all their money on their cars. I once had a conversation with one of the heirs to the McDonald Douglas Corp..he said the difference between the rich and the wealthy is that the welathy drive VW Vanagons and the rich drive RR... Do you ever see anybody who has serious money driving around in anything fanicier that an Escalde...

But if you must..and why do I even need to say this to someone who makes some stroke? BUy the Gddamned thing when it is 2 years old and save HALF...RR, AM, B all depreciate like rocks...

If you wana spend some money buy something where the depreciation curve no longer applies...buy something that can be considered to be collectable...acht zoooo...something that if you have to get rid of it is an appreciating asset instead of a depreciating one...collectable may not be the greatest of all investments, but they are a store house of value with a small downside risk unless the world economy absolutlly collapses and a potentially a large upside gain.

You should be able to with the right scanner/tool (they are OBD II/EOBD cars).

Please don't take this in the wrong way...but if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't.

porsche356a 10-25-2009 02:02 PM

Probably right, but you only live once.

I just don't have experience with British cars. My Porsches have been rock solid.

I'd use the Aston as a driver. Not really into garage ornaments.

Tabs - that is what the 356s are for. ;)

I came close to buying a V8 Vantage a couple years ago. My wife was even encouraging it.

Instead, I bought another rental house. Positive cash flow, while Astons on eBay are almost down to half-price from new sticker.

While I'm smitten by the Vantage, and would love to drive one, I don't want to be seen driving it. Just a bit too ostentatoius. Or is that Astontatious?

I love the sound of the engine. I would have to bring it out to an autocross just to hear it wail at redline. The interior puts every other car on the planet to shame. I don't keep my cars clean enough to deserve an Aston. Guess I'll just be happy collecting rent.

My wife loves AMs.

Personally, I think they're beautiful but kinda pissed that the new Jag looks so similar--took some of the appeal away for me.

I almost pulled the trigger on one for the Mrs. But I looked at serveral and reviewed the service records. The bottom line. They cost $1/mile to own. So if you drive it 10K miles/year, plan to spend 10K/year in service costs.
