Coke through the nose.... :D

The numbers according to Edmunds: 2010 Audi S4 B8: 329 hp, 0-60 in 4.9, 3/10 sec. faster than BMW 335i in quarter mile, 2 ft short of BMW on brake pad, 68.8 mph through slalom. 2009 BMW 335i: 300 hp, 0-60 in 5.3, 68.4 mph through slalom.
AND: Audi's can apparently take you surfing... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1257540223.jpg Oh....and Audi is selling more of the A4 series in Germany now than the BMW 3 series....so the Germans like them better too ;) |

Oh sorry, had no idea they had this down to a science. "Bimmer" fans is what I meant ;)

And? It's not prestigious enough? Audi has a long history of racing, starting with the (Auto Union) D-Type in 1939, continuing through the 1980 Quattro which pioneered AWD in rallying, and through today with the R10. I know Audi doesn't get any respect from Bimmer people (and never will). Anyway, I respect all German makes (except Opel because they are GM knock-offs), and I think Audi fans have a lot to be proud of. ;)

Ok you have to find some of the threads by Jims5543 and Tim Hancock...
The jokes were on Audi reliability or lack thereof.... |

Hmm..I own quite simple Audi compared to new ones (UrS4 with 6-speed manual and turbocharged inline-5) and I'm barely able to keep pace with stuff going bad. And I consider myself relatively handy when it comes to cars.
Wires, relays, sensors, ignition, more wires, shorts, bad relays, oil leaks, worn bushings...yes, I know it's 16 years old but c'mon...this is just too much. |

I looked up Jims5543, I see he hates his leased Audi. I do agree with the fact that Audis are hard to work on. As far as electrical problems, I've never had any with my Audi. I do think Audis are very, very complex cars and they do have compact engine compartments. I guess I can only speak from experience, and say that I have enjoyed my Audi a lot. I guess Jims5543 got a lemon, but I wouldn't say that would happen with all Audis. Maybe if mine was constantly acting up, I would feel the same as he does. I've never owned an older Audi, so I can't say if the 100 LS is junk or not, but the only old Audi I would want would be a Quattro. As far as the newer S4, I would buy one in a heartbeat. Until Audi gives me a reason to start hating them, I can't just decide not to like them because of some one else's misfortune. They have also been getting great reviews lately, and I am very pleased with my car, but I can understand not everyone likes them. :) |
I am waiting to get an R8 for $10K... :)

lol, me too. :)

And at $9,500 for a good looking 500E you could drive it till it's worthless. And enjoy the alleged VanHalen factor to boot. Or not. |

There are plenty of occasions where buying a salvage car makes sense. But you have to know the entire story, and the car needs to be significantly cheaper than non-salvage similar vehicles. In this case that car isn't really that cheap for a non-salvage 500E, I've seen other drivers for sale in the $10-12k range. Not to mention there's no story or records to accompany the salvage title. What if it's a flood car and subject to intermittent electrical failures (wet electronics). Or moldy under the carpet? Or the accident damage was poorly repaired, leading to rust or peeling paint? Or there was frame damage not repaired? If you don't know, it's not a good idea. I previously owned a salvaged Chevy truck. It was rear-ended which required minor frame straightening as well as a new bed. I was able to see records and talk to the guy that repaired it. It was also about 50% of fair market value. THAT is the sort of salvage purchase that makes sense. |

Every time I see that car it tempts me. Must....resist.....500E....... Unless the seller is full of crap I'm shocked it hasn't sold.

Yes you want to make sure a salvage car has been fixed right, and you should demand a steep discount off the KBB retail, wholesale, or 3rd party value (as applicable) when buying one.
Once you get into a nice one, if you plan to keep it forever, the salvage title has no meaning at all. My 11yo Godson has a 1966 Corvette Convertible(in quite rough but eminently restorable shape) sitting in his mom's garage that his now deceased dad left him(to be handed over at age 21). It has a salvage title. Think my god son cares? Hehe, not in the slightest! :D |
