I know that clip well. Deep bury bomb, but that one was a little too deep and not timed correctly. The idea isn't to blow up the vehicle, but rather to flip it. Up-armored humvees roll pretty easily, and when they do they usually kill the gunner.

The title says it all.

And we think we have it bad on our commutes.

At least the roads don't blow up on us.

My best friend's son-in-law lost his life this way. I cant believe those bastards still have access to the roads around the country with the bombs. How was that bomb planted? I can see why; the road is very normal looking from the view from the truck. I would'nt know.

How in the world do you secure all roads?!? Remember - the bad guys live there.

There are ways to tell, but they are often subtle and even if you do everything right you can still get hit. This type of attack isn't new - booby traps have been around for hundreds/thousands of years, and I usually point out that Samson was the first "suicide bomber." IEDs will be the predominant form of attack for the foreseeable future. The days of guys in uniforms going against other guys in uniform in "battles" are over.

Who exactly are the badguys?

Can you blame them? Would you let a foreign army camp out in your town or would you fight back any way you know how?

That is a tough question, because today's friend can be tomorrow's bad guy. Depends what way the wind blows, who has the money and who can provide "security." Not an easy way to fight a war...

The guys we killed after the awakening were predominately foreign fighters. Chechnians, Somalians, Saudis etc. So there is no validity to your statement.

When you see what these foreign fighters do to the Iraqis, you will understand why I have nothing but contempt for them. When they are found it is best they are found by Coalition forces, because the local Sheiks will kill them with a vengeance.

I personally witnessed the slaughter of little girls at these contemptuous bastards hands. They attacked a school of little girls, under 10 and killed those little girls. Days later I got to see the remains of a vbied bomber after he had been detonated by a 12.7 mm round while attacking an Iraqi police outpost. All that was left was his ankles in his boots and the rest was pink mist on a block wall. I never lost sleep over that gruesome scene. That was a great kill. I still see the blood stains in that school yard and have dreams of the nine friends I lost over there.

Don't underestimate these bastards, and wish only ill on them. Their place in the deepest parts of hell is assured.

Can't win a war when the enemy can blend back in with the civilians.

Maybe if we started a dialogue with the bad guys and apologized in behalf of our country they'd behave better .....
