I need one by Saturday morning. Anyone know where I can walk in and buy one in the LA area. I find plenty of places to order on the internet.
Thanks Hugh

Jail breaking refers to iPhone.
You want an unlocked phone? Will it go on/be added to an existing account? TigerDirect sells them and normally has a good selection in stock. Cellular Phones, Cell Phones, GSM Phones, Camera Phones, Smartphones at TigerDirect.com If you need one to go out of the country then just call your provider and have them unlock your current device.

Unlocked, yes. I can use my Verizon BB in London, but it's $1.29/minute. Want to get an unlocked phone and buy a pre-paid SIM card there with a local number. Joeaska say you can buy SIM cards there that cost more like $0.05/minute. I'll be traveling more this coming year and want a cheaper alternative. I found many on the internet, but I leave for London on Saturday and wanted to walk in and buy.

Hugh - have you tried Craigslist? Here in Atlanta, there are hundreds for sale every day.

There's currently one on slickdeals from dell for $185. Craigslist is your best bet, but you most likely won't get a warranty.

Hugh,
Google "used cell phones" and see if there is something near you.

I went on Craigslist and found a guy who says he can unlock a BB 8830 world edition. For $12 (paypal) he walked me through some steps and the BB said "Accepted" on the changes. He says it's unlocked and if not he'll return my $12 when I return. Seemed like he knew what he was doing. Walked me through using a SIM card in London as well. We'll see. If not, no biggie, This trip is costing my employer enough that $50 either way on cell phone charges is not a big deal. Just trying to save the Man a few bucks.

There are thousands of places in London who can as well unlock a BB, so not to worry.

Just purchase one in Europe. Simple and foolproof.

Hugh, I am overseas right now (with the wife) and we rented a phone locally for approx. $20 including 30 mins of airtime, delivered to the hotel front desk. I don't recall the exact airtime cost for additional minutes but this option was much easier and cheaper for us than buying anything or using our iphones here. AT&T charges $5/min for American iPhones here.

If my unlocked BB doesn't work with a local SIM card, I'll look into renting. I don't want to buy one there with a foreign charger. Too complicated to be an American with a UK phone that I want to take to say France.

I have a iphone and a blackberry that I purchased in Europe. The sim cards can be bought for any of the major carriers (Orange, Vodaphone, etc.) that will work in all the European countries. This is not as difficult as it appears to you.
Plus you can bring them home and use them with any GSM network sim in the US.
