Need help with Pysch HW... Only takes a few minutes.

Ok for my Psychology class we are supposed to identify 3 developmental issues for each of the following age groups. All I ask is that if you fall into one of the categories or your kids do you post some of the issues your age group deals with.

2.
3.
15-20) 1. Driving

2.Figuring self out Who am I, Where do I fit?
3.Regret of things left undone

2.
3.
50-60) 1.Worrying about retirement
2.Worrying about aging
3.

60-70. I lost control of my bladder.

porsche4life 10-27-2009 01:50 PM

Ok guys this isnt a joke...

TSNAPCRACKLEPOP 10-27-2009 01:52 PM

50-60, young guys ask my gf if i am her daddy.

Looking_for_911 10-27-2009 01:54 PM

40-50.
Eyesight, up close, is about shot... arm adjustment no longer brings the words into focus.
Joints, especially knees, ache like heck the day before it rains and hurt like all hell on the rainy days.
Pretty young girls now call me "Sir" which reminds me of my age. (48)

slodave 10-27-2009 01:55 PM

30 - 40.

I was told I was old....

Is that the same as being told to "grow up"?

TSNAPCRACKLEPOP 10-27-2009 02:02 PM

yes on the eyes, and i no longer can eat 3 plates full at thanksgiving. and the joints get worse when i do not have beer in the diet. i really think beer helps joints.

TSNAPCRACKLEPOP 10-27-2009 02:17 PM

its PORSCHE, not Psych......geeeeesh!

Rusty Heap 10-27-2009 02:54 PM

post pictures of cute college co-ed female lesbo roomates and you'll get more responses.

So I'm 40-50
I've never had a three-some with two women
I'd like to have a three-some with two women
My wife of 20 years wouldn't approve of me having a three-some with 2 college aged women.

if you could, let me know how your weekend in college turns out.......with photos please.

grins

Porschephile944 10-27-2009 03:07 PM

Not quite sure what your looking for porsche4life, maybe a definition of developmental issues would help for those who weren't paying attention during psych. Anyways here's what I thought you were looking for.

15-20
dating
what to do after high school
drug and alcohol use

20-30
picking a carer / finding an 'adult' job
marriage

Some of the older groups might have to deal with death (friends, family, SO), kids moving out of the house, retirement.

Good luck with it.

porsche4life 10-27-2009 03:16 PM

Exactly Porschephile hit the nail on the head. Thanks.

nostatic 10-27-2009 03:19 PM

would you like us to make dinner for you too?

porsche4life 10-27-2009 03:22 PM

I can handle that static....

The teacher suggested talking to people in those age groups.... So thats what I am doing....

RWebb 10-27-2009 03:27 PM

no you aren't

you are "internetting" with people who claim to be in certain age groups, but really aren't

for example, I am 87 but the issues in my assumed age group are dealing with fractious girl fights in my harem

40-50
having college student think that posting on an internet forum is the same as TALKING to people in those age groups.

if you really want get the answer you have to get out there and get face to face with your subjects

porsche4life 10-27-2009 03:34 PM

I know its not the same as actually talking to those people... I also realize that to get this done by thursday and get all my other homework done this would be more time efficient... Seemed to me you guys could answer a civil question....

Same here.

Also am asked if I am Dr. Phil...

Developmental issues?

Trying to "develop" a way to retire in this economy.

Trying to figure out a way around getting older, while dragging my aging body along with me.

Now THAT is funny.

Schumi 10-27-2009 05:03 PM

I could pick out developmental issues for children ages 1-6.. but developmental issues for people 20-30? More like sociological and economic issues.

Dealing with career choices. Dealing with living and schooling costs. Trying to balance school/work/play, or find the best possible ration of the three.
For people my age who aren't academics and aren't enamored in getting a PhD in their field, their issues may consist more of settling down, finding the right person to be with, starting a family, dealing with being a new family, etc.

If you are like some of the people I went to high school with who are now in their mid 20's, their sole concerns in life are

-living in the same old town, doing jack s***.
-partying with people of similar aspirations (none).
-going to community college classes just often enough to stay enrolled, but not learn anything.

Rusty Heap 10-27-2009 07:04 PM

LAZY COLLEGE KIDS DOING HOMEWORK VIA A WEB SURVEY. sigh.

was this sent off your blackberry while texting from the library or dorm room?

I'm sure you could google your answer and still get a passing grade.

DOS computers didn't come with a spell checker. I dealt with TRS-80's and IBM's running at 4.77 mhz and EGA or VGA graphics..............google that dough boy......yeah we had to do school work the old fashion way, we earned it..........

porsche4life 10-27-2009 07:06 PM

Nope it was sent off my laptop from my apartment whilst doing calculus homework... Yes I could have googled it... Figured I would get more accurate answers here...

Rusty Heap 10-27-2009 07:11 PM

The derivative of X squared is 2 X

ta dum.

Now for 2 pages worth of equations, is drop a rock off a bridge over a river and 8 seconds you hear the splash.

How high is the bridge. dual differentials are a beatch.

Gravity down, speed of sound up.

I'll let you work the answer out,

grins.

porsche4life 10-27-2009 07:13 PM

We haven't gotten that far yet... Its a pretty basic calc class...

nostatic 10-27-2009 07:13 PM

I think if you had filled out at least some of the answers and asked for other ideas you might have gotten a warmer response. For instance, if you had the original post and had answers for 1 and 2 for each category and asked, "hey do you guys have any other good ones?" I bet people would have offered up something and you would have gotten a number of interesting and real responses. As it stands now, it looks like you just typed the blank assignment in and asked us to do your work for you.

porsche4life 10-27-2009 07:14 PM

I did have some ideas but I was curious to see what you all would say...

Rusty Heap 10-27-2009 07:17 PM

so why are you on the Pelican boards posting fluff for the last 15 minutes when you're supposed to be doing calc homework?

Shotgun a can of Schmidt beer yet tonight?

Who's paying for the laptop/apartment/college?

40-50: Supporting childrens Internet/texting/gaming habits. Sending them off to college so we can "hit it" (or "whack it" for you single dads) in private on occasion.

porsche4life 10-27-2009 08:06 PM

My folks paid for the laptop... Rent is paid out of what I made over the last several summers... Other people are paying for my college... My grades got me a full ride...

Finished the calc a while back...

I'm not a big drinker...

PorscheGAL 10-27-2009 08:18 PM

I have a 9 year old. Here are a couple observations:

In the 5-10 year range: There are alot of changes emotionally and mentally during this time. For most, this is the first time they are in a school setting. I don't mean preschool. I mean sitting in a desk. Turning in school work, etc. That can be exhausting and frustrating even for the smartest of children.

Children in this age range also start to break away from their parents. Their personalities really start to come out. They develop distinct likes and dislikes. Remember this is the age range where most people are introduced to sports, music, etc. In this age range kids start to worry about how their peers see them.

In this age kids start to pick up on things more quickly and understand right and wrong. Younger kids know things are wrong because they will be punished but in the 5-10 yr range they understand why they shouldn't do it (ie. they can be hurt, it hurts someone else, etc.)

Hope this is what you're looking for.

porsche4life 10-27-2009 08:21 PM

Thanks Stephanie, That is an age range I was going to have trouble with.

Dueller 10-27-2009 08:41 PM

duplicate

Dueller 10-27-2009 08:43 PM

OK. I'll try to help you out, Kid...errrr....I mean, Sid;)

5-10: Separation from parent issues (school), socialization outside familly, physical body changes (growth spurts)

You didn't have it listed, but 10-15: Puberty, growth spurts, adolescence, sexual awakening,

15-20: Independence/rebellion against parental authority, sexual activity, exposure to alternative lifestyle inconsistent with rearing (drugs, promiscuity), spiritual conflicts.

20-30: Mating choices; career choices; who am I gonna fuch tonite

30-40: WTF did I marry HER? WTF does she want a divorce? How the fuch am I gonna pay my child support? Who am I gonna fuch toonite....oh wait its my weekend with the kids.

40-50: Physical changes: menopause/Peri-menopause, erectile dysfunction issues (so I've heard...wouldn't know personally...lol), decreased libido, bveginning of physical decline such as eye sight/hearing/physical endurance declining . Mid-life crisis in many men (reliving youth...buyin red 911's), career changes. Increased stress over work responsibilities---at peak earning capacity but concern over being able to maintaiin at certain levels of work performance

50-60: Further physical decline; empty nest syndrome

60-70: adjusting to retirement; onset of early signs of dementia; will Viagara keep me from rolling out of my hospital bed? Fear of loss of spouse/mate; where did I park my car? wait....do I have a car?

70-80: Who is this old woman sleeping in my bed? Fear of becomming dependent/loss of independence due to physical/mental decline. Senility/dementia.

PorscheGAL 10-27-2009 08:51 PM

Jim left out the 30-40 so I'll bite. That's my age group:

Getting married or staying married

Having/raising kids

Careers: I have alot of friends reevaluating career choice in this age range. They chose careers in early 20's. They have now been doing it for 10 yrs and now they try to figure out if they can do this til retirement or switch things up.

Average American does not start saving for retirement until this age group.

well, all I have is pencil and paper... but dual differentials this is not. Just newton and algebra..

taking sound to be 340 m/s at sea level.
x=340*t2
x=(1/2)(9.81)(t1)^2
t1+t2=8
solve for x
x= 257 meters.

not quite 2 pages of differential equations to figure that one out. that's as complex as it can get unless you wanna give me a drag coefficient, frontal area of the rock, and air fluid density and viscosity.

porsche4life 10-27-2009 09:10 PM

Thats the engineers response... The Pharmacy students response... Ask an engineer....
