thinking of prepping for next new year's party. dance lessons.

i love my wife. she would love it if we took dance lessons together. formal stuff like the tango. we didnt go this year, but we usually go to the SF symphony to celebrate the new year. the old classic people(foogies) have all the cool dance moves. the tanko, foxtrot...i know my wife would love it. she puts up with all kinds of crap from me. my living room is currently stacked high with camping stuff, and camo gear, and i plan to dissappear for 15 or so days, chasing AZ wildlife. i want to surprise her with dance lessons for two.

anybody ever do this? i can dance on a regular dance floor,..but have never done anything formal. i tried, and successfully convinced an entire room that i was retarded trying to swing dance......once.
way out of my comfort zone here. quash this, and buy my wife a diamond?

First, surrender your man card

Seriously, have a buddy who takes ballroom dance classes weekly at various venues. Very target rich environment....if you're into 50-60ish bible thumpin' bats.

First off, don't listen to the fools above about turning in your man-card. They probably spend all their free time going out drinking with their bro-mance buddies....

My wife and I have been taking ballroom dance lessons on and off for about 10 years now. It is the BEST! I get to connect with my wife and we have gotten pretty decent at some of the dances. We do a pretty mean Swing, Rumba, Foxtrot and even Waltz and Tango, to mention a couple of the dances we've learned.

It is really great to go to a wedding and be able to really dance, instead of just 'shakin' your bootie' like a fool. And there's no need to turn in your man card - what is more manly? Dancing with a beautiful woman, or going out with a bunch of guys for beers? I dunno about you, but there's something ghey about too much male bonding, if ya know what I mean...

Check with a dance school if they have any dance clinics or workshops. Typically, these workshops will teach a large group of people a few basic steps of a given dance. Often, you will switch partners as you learn the step, which is very helpful especially if you both have trouble learning the steps.

There are also community programs which have dance workshops - these are typically 6-8 week courses held weekly at local high schools or community centers. A very cheap way of getting a feel for ballroom dancing.

The most important thing is to go into it with a good attitude -- have fun! Enjoy the experience!

-Z-man.

If you take "Lambada" lessons, you get to keep your man-card. (Lambada, it's the forbidden dance)

Does anyone besides me think that Z-man needs to change his signature to say "Zoltan has Spoken."

Real men dance. Whacked out, insecure about their manhood homophobes don't.

Women love to dance, it is their version of foreplay in public.

Men dance the world over, but somehow in America it stopped about 1970 for most men (except the disco types).

You do not have to be Fred Astaire. Almost anyone can learn to dance the Waltz, Foxtrot and Regency styles. The Tango is a little more difficult, but not much. Swing is dead easy for the man.

Hint: Because the man leads in these dances, go and learn the basics before you include your wife. She will be amazed and throughly enamored with your manliness.

I went with a female friend of mine who takes Dance, and there were many hot women in their 30s & 40s....

I always thought it would be cool to know how to Tango, and you could add stamps to your man-card by having the correct skills..

Back when I was younger (in the early 90s), I used to go dancing fairly often (dance clubs). Women seemed to like it. I haven't danced in a long time and would probably look pretty silly doing it these days. I've never known how to do any of the structured types of dancing.

Men who can dance, especially lambada, tango, pretty much any latin dance are capable of turning women across generations into yearning lustful things with nothing more than hot suggestive glance on the dance floor...

Learn to dance and you will NEVER be without feminine company. You can be short, bald, paunchy, etc., but if you can move on the floor you're going to get your groove on later if you ya know what I mean.

My wife and I took a 10-class course before we got married, had a blast and can still dance most common styles (foxtrot, waltz, swing) convincingly enough. Do it!

I would really like to do this with and for my wife someday.

My wife loves to dance, but I am such a cluts, she has left me on the dance floor because she was too embarrassed to continue.

Go for it Vash....I think there is an upgraded man card if you are successful.

As with "big feet," a man "who can dance" is generally viewed by women as...let's say "a good thing."

When I was engaged to be married (the first time), I asked my fiance to go do a Fred Astaire introductory program with me, something like $25 for 10 groups, 2 private lessons and 2 parties.

Well! For our private lessons, they paired us with opposite-sex instructors. I had a very hot South American gentleman, and my fiance had a gorrrrrgeous hhooottttt Russian ballet dancer. We both had a great time and ended up signing up for a longer course together - including a few private lessons of course! And we both got pretty good at the basics of all the dances. I loved the roller-coastery spinny sensation of the Viennese Waltz, and the Tango was just fun fun fun. Very close body positioning!

Go for it. You will have a blast!

And now for comedic interlude, a riddle...

Q: Why do Baptists forbid sex while standing?

A: They're afraid someone will think they're dancing.

You know that my wife has been trying to get me to take ballroom dancing lessons with her for the past three years. I have been successful in holding her off. She went so far as to find a school and get their rates and sign us up for introductory lessons. I've come up with some great excuses so far but am running out of those. I may have to give in this year. Let me know if you want to sign up for group lessons. The school is closer to you than to my home. I wear spandex when I ride my bike. No way am I going to wear those skin tight "Angel's Flight" pants those fancy guys wear on Dancing With the Stars though.

OK...official PPOT dance lesson rule:

If your wife/SO/gf asks you to take dance classes, its OK to do so.

If you suggest it, man card gets revoked.
