man! i thought i outgrew this. i kinda want to lift my tacoma.......

.........a tiny bit. there is a TSB out for my truck. the truck's rear leaf springs are suspect when it comes to carrying a super heavy load. i explored the option of letting the dealership fix it, with a 4-leaf pack. (now it only has 3). anyways, they tried, but due to my truck being out of warranty, i am SOL. the dealership did offer to help by paying for parts...and i cover labor. pretty generous for a dealership. i told them i would think about it. trouble is...the TSB fix, lifts the rear about 1.5". tacomas ride about with hotrod like rake anyways. more rake would look silly.

so exploring my options, taco lifts are pennies compared to ANY 911 work. pennies! full custom rear leafs, adjustable coils up front to compensate,..new shocks.. DAMN! my wife's would roll eyes forever.

oh, i am not interested in going that high...maybe 3" only. low enough my stock wheels and tires wouldnt look too small.

You're gonna need a supercharger before this is over.

I had the TSB on my 08 done. To compensate for the rake I just did the front end leveling kit. Many argue leveling kits are worthless and blah blah blah... but I simply did it for aesthetics. Plus, I cant go too high since I park in a parking structure a few days a week. Give me a sec I'll run out and snag some pics...

I was fighting the same demon where my pickup is concerned, what broke me of thinking about making the truck higher off the ground was when loading an engine on the back by hand. All of a sudden it was high enough.

Funny you mention this - I am about to do some mods to the suspension of my 2001 DoubleCab. I bought some Sway-A-Way adjustable coilovers for the front (adjustable from 0-2.5 inches) and an add-a-leaf for the rear. The plan is to install the rear add-a-leafs and adjust the coilovers in the front to level the truck.

DoubleCabs are heavier to begin with and I have a camper shell and use the thing as a tow vehicle, so the add-a-leafs should be nothing but a good thing. The whole truck needs slightly stiffer spring rates (IMHO), so I am looking forward to this.

I bought my stuff from Wheeler's Offroad. They have new spring packs etc., for the rear. Lots of good stuff.

gave serious thought to bigger tires on my tundra when the time came to replace. opted against it as the truck is actually pretty darned sporty right now and i don't want to change the character.

in the back of my mind i've got an idea to build a replica of the yota from back to the future one day. not sure if the running gear from a '01 or thereabouts taco would fit in the old style body but it's what i'd like.

Vash: it was exactly two inches that went up. Tire size is 265/65/16, slightly larger then the 265/60/16 from the factory. I have a 12' trailer for my 2 quads and with the two 5 gal gas tanks in the bed and the gear I my bump stops would make love to the leafs constantly... it was awful.

Even with the TSB and front end leveling kit, I still get the gas tank lean when the tank is full... oh well.

I wasn't sure what TRD made suspension wise... My dad had a Tacoma with all the TRD packages... I really wish I could have gone and beaten it a little harder before he sold it....

Hurt the design, performance and efficiency of a vehicle, for the "look at me" effect.
nope, don't do it.

Both of my friends who lifted their trucks/suvs ended up with trucks that handled better with only a negligible effect on efficiency. Plus it looked cool and let them go more places off road.

My Jeep Liberty handles allot better with the Daystar lift. Just don't get mud tires.

lifting the truck doesn't always hurt the performance. when done right it improves performance and handling and capability.
