James Dean-cool because he drove a Porsche?

Based on what most of us Porsche owners have in the garage(James Dean pic/poster) I thought it would be fun to ask this question.

I doubt anyone on the board actually knew Mr. Dean but we all know what he drove and raced.

Was he cool because he drove a Porsche or was he cool just as himself?

I vote for the latter, based on what I know of him and his movies. It's icing on the caek that he drove a Porsche.

I think he could have driven a Yugo and been considered a pretty darn cool guy...

He raced motorcycles, cars (including a 356), guy loved to go fast! Plus he had that torn, emotionally edgy thing going on (good boy heading to the bad side or a bad boy sliding toward the good side)?

Definately cool, no matter what he drove. Would have been fun to hang out at a track for a weekend with him.

Lived fast, died young..........only he wasn't doing anything reckless when he died.

I drive a Porsche. I am not cool. I think that sums it up nicely.

As cool as if he'b be in a Ferrari.

He had plenty of cool to spare as only a farm boy from the midwest can have. (I mean that seriously). he also had plenty of insecurities but like all great artists, he used them to his advantage in his work. Made lemonade, so to speak.

My friend's Dad knew him well and made the excellent bio-pic of him w/ James Franco a few years back. His name is Mark Rydell.

Steve McQueen.
Lenny Bruce.
John Lennon.
James Dean.

(I, too, drive a Porsche.
I, too, missed out on the cool gene.)

I work in Hollywood, I know a few old guys who actually worked on Movies like "Giant", they say he was high maintenance and was a snivvely littlle weasel who demanding being treating like he was royalty. They also said he was verbally abusive to the crew and would put unbelievable pressure on the female crew members to have sex with him. The story also was that the women said he had a really small pee pee and did it in about 15 seconds.

I guess that reaffirms the "prick-in-a-Porsche " stereotype! :D
