I hope tomorrow's fry's ad doesn't suck
I tend to obsess a little on gadgets and what not. If I wait it out the craving goes away for a while but eventually it comes back. By waiting it out though I usually either don't get the gadget or I save a lot by not being an early adopter.
I'm addicted to Fry's ads. Last week I missed a fantastic deal on a motherboard and CPU combo. I hope there is a good one in this week's. I need to rebuild my computer...I'm working on spare parts since a few months ago when my motherboard went south. |
I hate Fry's.
Way too many gadgets/gizmos/widgets tempting my wallet. It's like a candy store for geeks. |
I feel exactly the same way.

First time I ever went in one I had to go see my doctor.
I'd been in there more than 4 hours.;] |
I used to be a fan. Then I read about the attitudes that the owners have.
Make it difficult to return. Hire people who do not know the products. (They're cheaper and will push what you tell them versus the better products). Fire employees when they work there for a while. (Keeps pay low). Treat all employees like criminals. Read up about them, you will be shocked. I now just shop online at Newegg. |

The deal I missed last week was just ridiculous...a Q9400 Intel processor and an Awesome Gigabyte board for $209.99 after a $20 rebate (yes, I send them in every time and have never had a problem). That process alone goes for $189.99 normally and the board for $134.99 on new egg (same rebate applies though it looks like). MAN! I went there on Tuesday or Wednesday and they were out and now tomorrow's probably going to SUCK! |
I need a new mouse pad. Grab one and ship it to me, I'll owe ya ;)
my favorite fry's story: I needed a new washing machine and was shopping around. Everything was $320 for basic and on up for fancy. I stopped in fry's just for the heck of it and spotted a nice looking Kirkland signature series washer (made by whirlpool). It was heavy duty and had all the cycles and features I wanted, but still has the old style dials without all the computer push button crap. I asked the sales guy how much. He said thank you for asking me. I do not know the price but I will find it for you (imagine an accent similar to the quicky-mart employee on the Simpsons). He came back about 5 minutes later and said $129. I said OK, I'll buy it for $129 plus tax. Do you agree to that? (giving him a chance to back pedal) He said yes I do agree and thank you very much. I said "good, then we have an agreement of sale and a binding contract". He looked at me funny and we went to the computer to write it up. To make a long story longer, it was supposed to be over $400. his manager told me the new guy made a mistake, I told him that a Fry's sales representative entered into a binding legal contract of sale. He offered a product for sale at a specific price, I agreed, you have to sell it to me for that price. It took a while, he was pissed, lots of harsh words, but I got it for $129 plus tax. thank you, come again. |
Never go there anymore. One is close to my old house.
I'd get up early, read the paper, see an ad, and be there when they opened: Same old story: Sorry, don't have that in stock, no rain check........Thanks, I'll stay home an buy over the internet....... |
Fry's is a little too far for me to drive. I buy most of my stuff from NewEgg. I'm waiting for Nvidia to release their new video cards.

They do have some good deals. Waiting on a 1 or 2 Terrabyte server for the house to come on sale.
Dammit, they have two stores in my area, one 5 miles and another one 7 miles away from home. Of course Harbor Freight is in the same direction! :) |

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f5...p/sideview.jpg Am I seeing this right?...liquid-cooled computer? . Local Fry's (Palo Alto, CA) operates the same way. Gobs of Indian (from India) employees that, when & if you can cross the language barrier, know very little about the products - they'll tell you anything you want to hear so they can make the sale. 6 months later, whole new crowd of employees. Oh, they always seem angry and they let you look up into their nostrils. |
I'm not a huge fan. It's fun to wander around, but the prices seem to mostly suck except on the sale items. The only time I buy there is if it's on sale or if they've got it and no one else does. Because they have a lot of stock, I'll also go and browse and then go an compare to other stores and online.

It sucked.

Radio Shack used to ge great when I was a kid and was into build electronic stuff - had some great DIY books and all the things you needed. Does Frys offer the same inventory of raw materials?

There's one next to The Dump on 635. Did you see we are getting a Shack over by Red Robin. |
I'm pretty sure that if I worked out of my home I would not need a car. Everything and I mean everything is in walking distance to me. I swear it is like living in a city!
