Ebay Watchers

So, you ever wonder about "watchers" on Ebay when you sell something ?

I listed an item on Sunday afternoon, it now has 11 bid's and 67 "watchers" WTF with so many people watching I will just retire when the bidding war starts over my item, right ???

bahahhahahahahah

I watch a lot of items I have no intention of bidding on just to see how the prices go.....

ditto what Bob said.

I don't play the ebay game. I set my max bid, "that's what I'm willing to pay for product XYZ" and don't play the sniping game of sneaking in at the last second.

if you want to sell something seriously, just list it as a "buy it now" price. you get what you want out of it, and the person knows what they're going to pay.

All depends on how much you want to play the bidding/auction/flakey buyer game.

Have used "buy it now" in the past but decided to go with a auction this time it is not a high dollar item just never had this many "watcher" before but I guess some are just watching to see what happens lol.

I'm an ebay 'watcher'.
When I want to sell on Craigslist, I look for the same item on ebay and 'watch' it. If the ebay sale price is to my liking, I post the ebay link in my Craigslist ad.
Seems to help.
.
I have a new pair of Wesco 16" boots on CL now for $250 Firm (I paid $440)...included is a recent ebay sale link for similar boots for $202.50. My boots are superior to the ebay boots. We'll see what happens.
.
So far I have not sold on ebay.

Same here. When my "watch list" gets close to full, I will bid on something if its very low knowing that I will not get it, but that way as well I can keep an eye on it.

You should still snipe your max bid at the last second if you want an item. Let's say the bid is currently at $70. You decide you do not want to spend more than $100. If you put in that max bid, it will either tell you are winning the auction at some about between 70-100 or tell you have been outbid (if someone else's max bid was above $100). However, even if you are winning the auction, other people still have time to come back over the top of you and outbid you.

If you had instead put that max $100 bid in at the last possible second and the previous high-bidder had only had a max bid of $95, he will not have time to come back over the top of you and get the item. By sniping, you still do not get into a bidding war as you decide what you will pay and go no higher than that, but you do greatly increase your chances of winning the auction.

Some select "watch" so it's easier to find later under My Ebay to bid....instead of searching for it again. It's pretty normal.

I've sold over 1000 items on ebay - some expensive, some not so much. I don't think I've ever had over 25 watchers of a particular listing. 67 seems like a high number to me, esp if it's not a very expensive item. It might turn out to be worth more than you think.......

You are not alone, but there is an art to sniping unless you use a computerized system. No, not going to tell my tricks here...

Esnipe has absolutely won me many an auction for items that I really wanted, including vehicles. I also think that it's saved me $$ for the reason that Sidney mentioned, ie. you do not tip your hand as to how much you're willing to pay.

I do this as well, but if it's something I really want , I use the advanced search function. I click "completed listings", then get an idea of the max I want to pay.

And, on one of the first items I ever bought, I got screwed. The item was priced low, maybe $5, I was willing to pay $50, someone came in and bid $100 and then retracted the bid as a mistake which meant that my bid automatically shot up to $50. I'm sure that the user had a friend do that to get to my max bid. From there on out, I never put my max bid on ahead of time. 90% of the time I snipe, occasionally, I'll put a very low max bid on something, if I'm not really super interested in winning it.
