I was just thinking about you guys yesterday :( My addiction continues with little effort to stop, I slow down for 3 days with lots of water but I'm back on the coke again:rolleyes:

exitwound 11-20-2009 07:33 AM

I went cold turkey killing my caffeine habit (coffee). After a few days, I was fine. It's all about determination and will. Carrying a bottle of water with you and having it at arms reach at all times is a good start. If you don't have to get up to get a new soda, just reach for the water.

porsche4life 11-20-2009 08:03 AM

I prefer coke zero to DC.

I must admit that I am already on my second coke of the day. And I got up at 830.

juan ruiz 11-20-2009 08:10 AM

Second !! Its 11.00 am, I had 2 cans of 12 oz and 2 bottles of 16oz:(

creaturecat 11-20-2009 08:13 AM

Aspertame, the silent killer, is prohibited in Europe, for children's products.
Monsanto, the owners of nutrisweet, were caught bribing medical officials in Canada.
No thanks.

berettafan 11-20-2009 08:35 AM

creature can you give us some links on that? might help reinforce the issue.

am on my 3rd 20oz water right now after only 1 20oz dp this am. fighting a headache as i didn't have a ton of dp yesterday either.

berettafan 12-08-2009 05:19 AM

Update:

Am down to 2-3 diet pepsi's per day. Key is to refill my morning 20oz dp with water the rest of the day. My morning dp still tastes like heaven but the rest of the day...well they're getting less palatable.

dad911 12-08-2009 06:05 AM

I drink alot of seltzer. It's just carbonated water. Sometimes I add a splash of cranberry juice for flavor.

berettafan 02-02-2010 05:08 AM

Just had a visit to the doc yesterday with a sinus infection. Blood pressure was way down!!!

I don't look like a million bucks just yet but the biggest benefit of all has been realized!!!

Have been walking 1.5 miles at least 4 days a week for about two months now as well.

Small, sustainable changes seem to be key for me.

juan ruiz 02-02-2010 05:37 AM

I'm failing :( my goal was to stop Dec 31 2009 and here we are in Feb 2 and I continue to struggle with this, however I'm down to 4 maybe 5 a day and I'm not drinking any after 6.00PM little changes that I hope will help me kick this habit

Google "aspertame Rumsfeld"

Joeaksa 02-02-2010 06:31 AM

Guys... look at yourself here! You are ADDICTED to this crap!!! This is what the makers want to happen to sell product and could care less about your health.

Drink iced tea, water or something but this crap that is sold in plastic bottles at every store is designed to do one thing, drain your pocketbook of money. Its making a profit for the maker and thats it, period.

If you NEED your second soda by 8 AM YOU ARE AN ADDICT and you need help! There is no difference between this and a needle in your arm. Does not matter which substance you are addicted to, or how you take it.

Sit down and realize that this substance has control over your life and deal with it. If you cannot do it yourself, get professional help. In the end it will do something to your life and NONE of it is positive.

URY914 02-02-2010 06:37 AM

I kicked the D Coke habit and went to ice tea. MUCH cheaper and better for you.

Rot 911 02-02-2010 06:45 AM

One of the benefits of being in the hospital for 6 days was kicking the Diet Coke habit. I am sitting here at my desk with a glass of water and don't even miss it. I might have a Diet Coke when I go out to eat, but for some reason, it doesn't taste as good as it used to.

Mind over matter. Just say no. First few days are hard. After that, it's not so bad. I did it with caffeinated coffee. Everyone around me had it so it was impossible not to smell it and crave it. After a few days, my own decaf satisfied the craving of a warm, steamy drink in the morning.

LWJ 02-02-2010 09:02 AM

THIS thread caused me to kick a DP habit. None since I read the first post. Yes. I drink coffee. And I have had a few regular Pepsis since but the habit is gone. Good riddance! That crap is tomorrow's cigarettes. I tell you, there will be lawsuits and all kinds of health info coming out about how bad this stuff is. As you know, there is no louder singer in the choir than the newly converted. (that would be me)

No thanks.

Aspertame is an outrageous drug. Google it if you have any doubts.

You have to have be brain-dead to put this into your body at the rate of several cans a day. Can you say "junkie"?

And this in the land that is fighting the "war on drugs", where you're not allowed to see a tit on television, and can't drink a beer until you're 21?

Nucking futs!

RWebb 02-02-2010 02:25 PM

I used to work with an ex-ballerina who was a total Tab addict - she saved the cans and had an entire wall of them stacked along the hallway next to her office - totally pink.

Seriously, i think the aspartame is addictive. It can't be good.

Funny,t hat, as I was just reading somethign the other days that said that Aspartame was chemically addictive...

Monza_dh 02-02-2010 07:10 PM

what helped me when i dumped my Coke habit, red 12oz cans, was drinking soda water for the carbonation effect I was getting from the Coke. I still drink coffee but only 2 a day, espresso no sugar, but D.Coke and all the shtt they put in it is another story.

stay with it. you will feel so much better not consuming that shtt and wasting your money.
I have three kids an my 6 and 13 yr old kids have never drank soft drinks. They dont like them and we do not keep any in the house. I hope they can las as long as they can without it.

Joeaksa 02-02-2010 07:21 PM

Good call!

I still drink carbonated water most of the time. Buy it in the market called "club soda" for .99 a two liter bottle. No sugar kick but not far from a soda either and much better for you.

Amen to that. We're going to install a soda fountain at home pretty soon.

No sugar, easy to spruce up with real juices (see the hippie section of the store), if you're looking for an adult non-boozy drink just add some Peychauds or Angustura bitters, I hear that whisky seems to go OK too (if you're into that).

It turns out that the wife doesn't realize it's pretty much a kegerator.

(btw Diet sodas are evil - save the Coke for real Mexican sugar-stuff with your mixer of choice)

Joeaksa 02-02-2010 09:40 PM

One thing that we used to drink all the time in Germany especially during the summer was club soda half and half with apple juice. Very refreshing and tasty as well.

mjohnson 02-02-2010 09:51 PM

Club soda and any of the traditional bitters/amaros is awesome. Add a little for flavor and ~0 EtOH or an ounce or two in a pint glass for a nice grown up fizzy drink. Fernet is great. Campari is obvious of course.

Jeff Alton 02-02-2010 09:51 PM

I drink a couple of cans a day, but then I don't drink coffee, just one cup of tea each morning..... started drinking it when I was fat, 25 years ago, and now it is just habit. Drink lots of water too. I need something that is better for me than the DC, yet tastes good....

Cheers

mjohnson 02-02-2010 10:00 PM

Strangely, in the theme of non-sugar sodas, Diet Tonic water seems to be made with Saccharine. I guess it doesn't cause cancer anymore.

Thing is, normal tonic water is _SO_ sweet that most G&T's are candy. Diet version is a better balance of bitterness with sweet. We drink more than a few "Virgin Skinny G&T's" -- ice, diet tonic and a little muddled lime. I'd say it's better than most boozy versions you'll get out of the gun.

Seriously, she was joking, right? Surely she must know that this can't be good for you.
You can also smoke 9 packs of cigarettes a day... but even the tobacco industry had to admit that their product is not really healthy...

We thought it may be a caffeine withdrawal so she had coffee, tea.....all to no effect.

After the 6th day or so she was all normal again. On the 7th day, she habitually cracked open a can at work. She said it was soooo good. And now we are back to her diet coke habit.

its the synthetic caffeine. seriously. anything with caffeine listed as an ingredient is synthetic. i don't why or how, i'm not a chemist, but its different.

Schumi 02-03-2010 04:12 AM

This is who I think of every time I see a diet coke can..

I'm glad I stay away from that stuff. I'll stick with my 6-8 beers a day :)

TSNAPCRACKLEPOP 02-10-2010 09:09 AM

not just cancer....BREAST CANCER!!!

juan ruiz 03-25-2010 07:43 AM

I like to report that as of today I am Coke FREE, Diet Coke that its, today marks day number 10, first time in 10 years that I have stop drinking this poisoning beverage, this came due to the fact that the wife put me on this strict diet plan of 500 calories a day :mad: and so far I have gone down from 210 to 200 in ten days, I had MASSIVE headaches for days ! and I mean Massive but I'm trying to loose this weight to show my kids that the mind is a powerful thing.

I have never drink so much water in my life :o I still don't like it but I'm already committed to this deal.

exitwound 03-25-2010 08:10 AM

500 seems too thin. How can you get the daily nutrients you need in quantity only 500?

Congrats, Juan! You'll feel like crap for a while, but when that goes away you'll really be surprised at how good you can feel.

flipper35 03-25-2010 10:21 AM

What about beverages like Diet Rite? Splenda, no caffeine, no sodium.

berettafan 03-25-2010 10:35 AM

nice to pee clear again isn't it Juan!

"..."A better alternative to Aspartame is Stevia Sweetner, which comes from leaf and is 100% natural. It can be found at eHealthSupplies.com or Wisdom Natural Brands.."

Glad you are getting off the diet cokes. How did something you went to a "soda fountain" with you best girl on a Saturday night (75 years ago) - turn into part of our modern daily diet??

Anyway - regarding the quote above, any artificial sweetener can have side effects and should be avoided.

Apparently, artificially sweet foods can cause the body to expect a calorie rush that never actually happens - and this "crying wolf" can trigger adverse reactions.

juan ruiz 03-25-2010 11:53 AM

I have come to the conclusion that my body was addicted to the caffeine, GEE what a surprise!! :D
