can't say i agree, got me a base model 1 series hatchback
Bmw doesn't do much gadgets on the base models ( i think they offer more standard in the US)
No ipod interface, even AC is optional...no cruise control, no keyless entry, no fancy follow the road lights, no nothing

i got the regular AC( not climatronic, or whatver bmw calls it) and sports seats, coz they are good

It does come with AC an ABS, i do tend to turn those off anyway

My newest car is 20 years old. I don't need no stinkin' gizmos.

had to rent a chevy crapbox a few weeks ago. first car i've driven in three years.

when did they start hiding the gas cap release button on the floor under the seat?

totally unimpressive car by the way. even compared to other super cheap bottom feeder vehicles.

Are you guys serious? Gadgets to the MAX! They don't make enough gadgets for me. Until I'm surfing the web on a heads-up display, I'm not satisfied...

ABS and a couple of airbags is all I need in terms of safety.

An CD/MP3 player is also a plus.

I've got my own portable GPS unit, so I don't need an uber expensive one installed in the vehicle.

And I must say, heated seats are really nice on cold mornings. AC is ok - but typically, I'll use my windows on even really, really hot (I mean 90+) days.

But everything else - like voice activated text messaging, 3 levels of traction control, traffic enhanced GPS, "press this number to order a polo shirt that matches your car" or "let me tell you how to get to your destination" gizmos -- I don't need.

And don't get me started on DVD players for the kiddies. Hey - wanna see something in Hi-Def little Johnny - then look out the freakin' window!!!!

Battery died in my volvo. Now the radio just says 'CODE' as in the security code needed to reactivate it. I have the code card that came with the card but the code doesn't work.

call stealership - they won't give me the code over the phone. I have to go there, they won't charge me but I still have to go. I don't want to go. =-)

I know the purpose of the system - to deter radio theft and all that but I seriously doubt it does anything positive to my insurance rates.

I just ordered a new truck (to carry around Porsche parts of course). It is going to be loaded with gadgets- nav system w/ DVD, ipod connection, automatic trailer stability control, 10 pwr heated and cooled seats, on board computer, auto AC, Sync, etc. I am very excited about it. I love all that stuff!
Of course it doesn't replace the sound and feel of the 911, but ain't it great to have both!

Take me back to the basics. The more gadgets the more can go wrong.

The problem is that a lot of these gadgets are just too complex for the shade tree mechanic to get into. If I have to go to the dealer for something - well - it's irritating to someone like me. It's driven me away from cars in general.
